What is your opinion of this show on VH1 Classic?

Really enjoying it as with all of the other Banger Films productions. Still need to watch the last episode (Prog Metal).

I think Sam Dunn did a good job, but instead of a grunge episode I would have much rather have seen a death/black metal episode. Though I feel grunge was influenced by early metal, it does not have any "evolutionary" influence for current true metal bands.

Yeah, Grunge is kind of the odd one of the bunch. There could be a second season of the show which would give the opportunity to explore other genres like death. Not sure if we'll see black metal since he already did that mini documentary on the Headbanger's Journey DVD.

that mini doc was solid. I guess I should check this out if you're approving of it.

I liked all the threads he posted so far, so this is a ridiculous statement.

I only watched the Power Metal one and it was way out of line with what a fan would recognize as a quality overview of the genre. Half the episode was about The Scorpions, Dio and other shit that came out a decade or more before power metal was even developed as a distinctive autonomous movement of it's own.

That's bullshit and you know know it. If they did a prog. metal episode and half of it was about Yes and Emerson Lake and Palmer you'd recognize it as being a comical outsider's misconceptions about a genre.

Dude, there's a reason it's called Metal Evolution. So they spend time talking about Scorpions and Dio. Did you forget the rest of the episode where they talked with Blind Guardian, Helloween, HammerFall, Malmsteen, Nightwish, etc?

By the way, the Prog episode DOES talk about Yes, Rush, and King Crimson but it also covers Tool, Meshuggah, Dream Theater, Queensryche, and Mastodon.

I liked the show as well as his films, but I feel he could have done a lot more with the series if it hadn't been on VH1, but then again, I'm not sure what other channel would pick up the series. I was wishing for a black, death, or doom metal episode as well, but then I remembered that VH1 would never dive into these genres in a million years.
Instead there was an episode about Glam Metal (VH1's niche if you hadn't noticed), and an episode "trying to figure out" if grunge had or had not killed metal (which no metal fan believes), and if it belonged in the show.
Besides these VH1-like notions, good show overall.

I've watched all of them a few times and there's no doubt that Sam knows his metal. I don't think that there was a show where I didn't learn something I didn't know before. He's done great research and presented it all rather well. I walk away from those episodes with the same feeling each time...that Sam Dunn is one lucky SOB! Oh the jealousy!

It was a great show. More could be done with it but unfortunately it more than likely wont come back. Dunn does know his stuff and the black metal mini was really cool. The grunge episode was kind of strange Alice in chains are probably my favorite band of all time so anytime they are mentioned I get happy. But we're they really grunge? I personally don't think so. I think they were hard to classify came from Seattle during the grunge movement and got lumped in with grunge. When I think grunge I think nirvana. I don't like nirvana. Sound garden was another very hard to classify band. I like soundgarden.

Watched until the light takes us recently and that was really good too. Fenriz may be the coolest dude ever and varg is extremely well spoken. Despite him murdering someone and hating america I think he too is a pretty cool fella. And I'm not sure how you all feel about his post prison albums but I'm really enjoying umskipitar.

So, Banger Films announced today that they're hoping to raise funds to help produce an additional episode focusing on Extreme Metal. Apparently they wanted to do one originally but the networks weren't up for it.
