Ohh no. No fucking way. Not only is David Threlfall entirely and utterly Frank Gallagher, but he essentially conceived the show and all the characters himself. The feel, the atmosphere and the interaction just goes to fuck itself in the US version. It's nonexistent. You need James McAvoy and the rest to really understand who the characters are and what they do. You need the heavy irish accent on Patrick Maguire. You need the evolution of the family and the characters throughout the eight seasons. The US version is simply pish, doesn't cut it, cheap imitation, fuck right off.
No. The UK version was too slapstick, while the US version succeeds as a drama. The US' characters are actually endearing and don't come off as sad human beings.

It's not supposed to be a fucking drama, it's a comedy show about absurdity, poverty, and brilliantly drawn characters.
As a comedy show, it is just generally repulsive because it relies so heavily on creating a portrayal of seedy chavs, "look at how pathetic their lives are and how their life choices ruin things for them". The beauty of the US version is that it inverts that and makes the characters incredibly endearing and easy to relate to, then you notice that they're actually poor and fucked. I'll watch more of the UK version, but I wasn't impressed like I was by the US show.

The fuck? How much of the UK version have you seen? As far as council estates go, it's a pretty accurate representation of the squallor, but I find it flatters that demographic by showing self-respect and the ability to strive for things regardless.

Only the first season of the UK version. It's not even as funny as the US version.

The first seasons have some practically identical episodes and the delivery, as a whole, is done better by the US cast.

Just finished watching Dexter season 6 and it's definately not the series best. Towards the end it gets real cringe worthy and the religious thematic throughout the season is kind of a let down.

Watching the BBC's 15 parts documentary about the history of Britain. And I learned quite a lot of things yet (and I only watched 3 episodes). Great stuff.

Sounds interesting. Downloading...

Sopranos S1. Oh boy, I had forgot (or is it forgotten?) how awesome the first season is. The phrase "Oh, I wish the Lord would take me now" always crack me up

Exactly, Alex, season 1 remains untouchable. It is the reason for all the excessive hype that would follow. Now, "where is my fuckin ziti?!"

God fucking awful. That new season might be utter shite too, though. I think it's set to be done at the end of 8.

saw 2 episodes of the American version of The Inbetweeners. it's barely passable. the original version was absolutely hilarious, from start to finish, every single episode.

fucking MTV ruins everything.

Soooo... I'm hung up on the NBC show, Parenthood. It pulls my heart strings in a heteronormative way.

What do you think of new Thick Of It, Fridge? First episode dull, second one decent (Malcolm's recollection of Star Wars is hilarious) but still a step down compared to earlier stuff, I reckon. Certainly needs Malcolm to be funny, think Veep is better from what I've seen so far.

I read up on the history...I won't spoil anything here but now I understand why so much time is being spent far away from A.C.
