It's decent, not amazing. Completely dwarfed by Death Magic Doom, but better than King of the Grey Islands.

You know... I'm going to give DMD a good listen today to see what you're talking about!

It's slightly inferior to DMD, much better than KotG.
I wish more bands would retire with an album of that quality.

Is there something wrong with me because I don't like Lowe's voice? I just can't get into him no matter how many listens I give his stuff. Has Candlemass called it quits or have they just bounced Lowe?

I've seen the album get some negative reviews elsewhere. I think it's very good, though IMO not as strong as DMD or KOTG (or the s/t "white" album for that matter . . . even though I am personally more of a Lowe than Marcolin fan). The expectations of it being their last studio work probably weigh a little heavy on this one.

That said, some good to great moments all the way through, the only real negatives for me are I think they got a little heavy-handed with the Hammond organ. It's always a nice touch, but I found it a bit overdone to the point of distracting on "Siren Song." And, as they always do---why do bands insist on doing these???---the spoken word thing really hinders "Black As Time." Agree, silly Monty Python-esque voiceover and, my God, it just keeps going and going after beating the point to death. And then it even comes back later in the track. Painful.

Classic band. Solid if not outstanding studio coda with this album. Was disappointed to hear they had to part ways with Lowe for live performance issues, but these things happen I guess. Leven is certainly a more than capable fill-in.

I love you too, sweetie. Seriously, I do love DMD, but this just strikes me as better... I'll throw them on next to each other at some point and challenge that, but it's certainly how things struck me up til now...

I couldn't disagree more. I loved the voice over, was kinda creepy. And why is it Monty Python-esque? Just because the guy has a English accent?

And the organ? My favorite part. I actually want to find more bands that use that old school organ sound in their music. Reminded me of Deep Purple.

A good album but I prefer DMD as well. For some reason I get the feeling more thought went into that album than this one. Don't get me wrong, it's a very enjoyable album with Lowe in top form and that Hammond organ brings songs like Siren Song to a whole other level. And the production is just utterly fantastic as well. But there's just something missing but I can't put my finger on it.

That about sums my thoughts up on this. It just seems a little rushed compared to DMD.

Good album, no doubt about it. But it doesn't have the same impact on me like DMD or King of Grey Islands. Maybe it was slightly rushed after all.
