Not much discussion going on here so I thought I'd start a thread for peoples miscellaneous metal commentary, insights, thoughts and videos.

Anyways...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0NHbs96 ... re=related

Video is, first, entertainingly awkward. It also provides a nice comparison of past metal/hardcore music scenes with present. And a funny contrast of the sombreness of the guy in Integrity versus the sillyness of the annoying emo kid.

It also made me check out Integrity's music. They are awesome.

Noble idea, Noodles. I'm currently listening to Ulver's second soundtrack for the film Svidd Neger. It is absolutely amazing.

On another note, I just watched a documentary on the Occult which explains how it evolved from the most ancient times until how Christianity took over and ruled for a thousand years. It is absolutely spectacular in how religion has always been a means for controlling the masses and a prevention for the human soul to reach its supposedly full potential!

Reaching the truth is a means for any kind of study for one must be aware that this truth does blind one to many more possibilities and potentialities existing and floating endlessly in the ether.

Dave has yet to respond.

That was pretty awesome. Listening to Dark illusion again now. Reviewed it a couple of weeks back. Pure NWOBHM joy.

I've been coming back to Slough Feg recently. I haven't be able to get into to them until today. It's strange because I just love classically influenced melodies. I've listened to half of Animal Spirits which is pure gold. Also giving Solitude Aeturnus more goes. Great fuckin' stuff, too (Beyond The Crimson Horizon). I've been practicing quite a bit of guitar as well. My index fingers has blusters but that's a great sign :D.

I really should do more guitar-playing. Just don`t have the time.

Ummm. Yeah, I have the time because I'm pretty well done with school but once work starts I'll have a difficult time scheduling something to find the time to play the axe.

Haven't been practicing much lately either, even though I've been feeling very inspired pretty regularly. It's mostly come out through focus on reading and writing, not music. My fingers've gotten sore last two times I played guitar which means I lost my callouses :(

Never really got into Solitude Aeternus. Their songs always seem directionless and plodding, nothing jumps out and catches my attention, even though Rob Lowe has a magnificent voice.

La Dispute get interviewed by an incredibly annoying guy (Do people who talk like that even feel emotion?) and then play some of the best music I've heard. Damn. Tears!

SA is not a band one would like from the first time of hearing. In fact I see their song-writing full of direction although one has to pay full attention and more importantly be in the right mood for the music. Give Adagio and Beyond The Crimson Horizon a chance. I think the riffage and the song structure will grow on you, however, directionless it might appear to you at the first few experiences. It's traditional epic doom, so you have to be a little patient to be rewarded, hopefully.

They're a band I periodically re-check out every year or so. It wouldn't surprise me if they click eventually.

Giving Neurosis's last album a go. Good stuff. I'm definitely into the whole sludge/progressive/tribal/muddy production thing so there is no barrier to cross in those terms. It definitely needs more time to sink in but I like this stuff a lot. Also check out a band called Soen. Soen's most famous members are Martin Lopez (ex-Opeth drummer) and Steve DiGiorgio who needs no introduction. They are intricate and methodical (which is how Lopez describes them to be). Their sound can be described as Tool/Meshuggah/Opeth. But do get past those obvious influences and try to hear it for what it is. They've just released an album called Cognitive. You can find it on Amazon for a reasonable 13 bucks.

Yeah, right now I have work, school, GF and powerlifting. Bachelor done in May, and if I don´t start my master right away a major factor goes away. So in comes a band or at least guitar practice. I occasionally pick it up nowadays, and I´m getting sloppy. Sucks.

Anyway, working up the courage to review the bad-boy that is Overkill - The Electric Age. Speechless.

I can understand. What were you studying again? I remember you were going in the business of nutrition and health but cannot remember what your studies were? I only have one Overkill album which is brilliantly done (Ironbound). A bit repetitive but very good, nonetheless. I haven't listened to it much, but when I have, it is has been very enjoyable. You should check out Soen and try to review it.
