I love it. It's worse than their last album but still resembles the ass kicking black-thrashery of Tara. Recommended to all.

Not as good as Absu but definitely still worth some listens.

Not even close to Tara of course, but good. Pwnage riffage here and there, fun listen.

Proscriptor's voice is thinning after so many years of rasping with the band, but expectedly the music is great with his trademark constant fills until your ears burn. Earth ripper truly lives up to the potential of the album being unleashed, and you have to love the rapid tempo of course.

My problem is actually not with his voice but his drumming. Tara remains one of the best drumming performances of all time, and his stuff with Melechesh was top notch too. He obviously didn't practice a lot while Absu was on ice. Most drummers don't age this badly.

Oh and by the way, the drumming is still better than %99 of the stuff out there. Judging by his past work, it just isn't on par.

Ontologically is fucking awesome. really not what i expected after you mentioned its "almost proggy meander". that shit's damn near black thrash perfection.

going to listen to it a couple more times, Ontologically and Earth Ripper are already two of my Absu favourites, but i daresay any would make the cut save for the long song. i mean i like it but i just can't pay attention to the same song for that long.

hope this isn't seen only as a comeback/confirming we're back album, because it's objectively a very good album and would only be a mild disappointment had it come only a few years after Tara.

the drums do seem to be holding back, even if they are still pretty punishing.

I've only got Tara and Absu so my question is how does this one stack up against those two?

it sounds more aggressive than Tara, if you liked A Shield With An Iron Face more than, say, Stone of Destiny, you're in for a treat (the start of Earth Ripper is pretty reminiscent of that song, imo). there are some seriously killer songs on Tara, but too many slow ones and interludes for my taste. if like me you tend to skip that, you'll like Abzu for how direct it sounds, without compromising on the complexity of the riffs or song structures. drumming is noticeable not on par with Tara, but coming from any other band it wouldn't be something to grumble about either.

didn't hear Absu properly, sorry i can't make a comparison there.

sounds like it's custom made for me

ok well $70 of iTunes credit that's what I have to use and that about five albums so I'll be grabbing this, Forest of Equilibrium by Cathedral and three others I'm as of yet undecided on
