Yes, he was. Not one of my favorites of his, but your talk of it has me considering another watch. Everything having to do with the setting was excellent.

Rubber - a tire that kills people with psychokinetic powers, exploding their heads with weird meta-fictional aspects to it. Fucking stupid as I expected but not worth watching like other shit horror films.

I watched that earlier today, and yeah, it sucks. At first it's cool but once I reached the halfway point I just didn't care anymore. And yeah, the meta-fictional bits were not well-explored, just stupid.

a complex story deliberately and unnecessarily made more complex and hard to follow. maybe i'm low-brow, but it's like they all went out of their way to stretch your attention span, attention to detail and patience, not even bothering to entertain the audience.
not to mention the "ooohhh look at all the skilled actors, they're speaking so fucking slowly they can only be masters of their craft".

Quite a lot of plot got squashed in to fit the running time, so it's not really unnecessarily complex. And I found it pretty gripping... it is le Carre, not sure he ever 'entertains' in the usual sense of the word.

Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench - Great music and dancing interspersed with the boring everyday events that hipster indie movies are obsessed with. Then realism is ruptured by the occasional complete failure, like picking up a stranger on the subway by playing footsie with her. Needed more dialogue, less close ups of characters' faces.

Mutants

I liked everything about this movie (setting, atmosphere, climate,) besides the ending... That was pretty stupid.... Zombies do not have emotions or recollections..

Dragon Hunter - A Syfy movie that somehow made it onto Showtime. Dean Cain is a helo pilot that flys a scientist to an underground facility where they are practicing cloning. A horrible CGI Dragon is there. CGI Dragon escapes, and starts randomly killing retards that do retarded things to get themselves killed (guy is holed up in a safe room, gets pissed that he is stuck, grabs a baseball bat and opens the door, knowing there is a friggin Dragon walking the halls). If you want to laugh at stupidity or cry at terrible film making, check this out.

Paranormal Activity 3.

Hoooo-leeeeeee fuck that was intense. The first two barely managed to do more than creep me out a bit, but this one... fuck. Some of the scares were really predictable, but the suspense was so high at certain points that even those scared the hell out of me. I think the franchise is finally living up to the hype and I'm eager for the inevitable fourth installment.
