Very good album overall, but lacks standout tracks or moments. This is the kind of album you have to listen in one take to fully aprecciate. I would give it a 80/100: good production and musical performance but lacked on the songwriting a bit.

Nice review there Thomas

Apparently a song from this was on the St. Patrick's Day episode of The Office. :D

Anyway, good review Thomas, not really my kind of folk metal but what little I've heard sound pretty good.

Well, I think this stuff is not quite excellent, but pretty damn good. As mentioned before, a bit uneven in the songwriting dept., but Masha is oozing with talent. My god what a vocalist she is!! Since she also happens to be pretty I see Arkona moving towards a more mainstreamed sound, but I can't fault her for taking advantage of her talent(it is her band afterall). I can't think of many vocalists in the dirty/clean realm that can make the band all by his or her self. Heck, she's better than Akerfeldt.

I'm really disappointed of these guys. Because they are too talented to be wasted like that. As for now, this band is great, but it's just about it. I really expected them to evolve, to mature...

This album has its beautiful moments, but still, some of its parts disbalanced, misplaced, and IMO even too immature and a bit childish.
You can't mix a black metal (in it's classic shape) into folk music, without adjusting it to fit properly in. That's what "harmony" is all about, and that's what they still in some way lacking.
The lyrics are sometimes just blunt...

All in all great work, but (yet again) not enough too achieve the "masterpiece" badge.
completely agree with the 89.

Great review! The artwork in the booklet is also worth a mention. The finest stuff i´ve seen.
