I like Anthrax, you philistines. Perhaps not as great as some think, but they're good stuff all in all.

[Genuinely interested] They have good stuff? Like what?

For me, Among The Living, Spreading The Disease, State Of Euphoria, Persistence Of Time, heck, even Sound Of White Noise are beyond solid albums. Listen to this and tell me it isn't sheer brilliance, two tracks together from PoT:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Dhs4bUX_IE

They have that touch of songwriting skill that is capable of touching both your catchy spot as well as your metal one. Sure, like everyone I went off them during the reunion phase where they released about a thousand spurious best-of and live albums, and they treated Bush and that kid they got in after him disgracefully. But they have skills.

I (re)listened to the youtube clip, and... well, I like the intro and, that's it.

Sure, I definitely see what you mean here. That's how i feel when I listen to, say, Indians for instance. But I don't know. I think past your teen days, it's just too late to get into Anthrax. I think I listened to their discography too late to enjoy it. But they're definitely not a bad band per se.

Each to their own. One mild disappointment about them that I find is that they've never as heavy as I remember them to be - definitely more of a Metallica thrash band than a Kreator one. But they have good songs and are fun to listen to, and if you can't get down to them and Public Enemy ripping shit up to Bring The Noise ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEwKCu0P89c ) then you're not human.

Let's put it that way: you like thrash. Is there a thrash band you don't like?

I've heard that song way too many times, and I always thought it was "meh."

It is you that is "meh." :P

Seriously, if you have half as much fun in your whole life as Scott Ian does in that one video, then you'll be able to die content. White Jews from New York should be allowed to break the rap rule, for everyone's entertainment.

most new ones
Metallica save KEA and RTL
Testament (boring as fuck)
Demolition Hammer (I like certain songs, but can't do a full album)

I know there is more, but they are the only ones coming to mind now.

Emperor and most black metal has less of the "you should like this" vibe that one gets when he says he doesn't like Judas Priest.

that's why it's stupid. but given my love for thrash and death metal, "shouldn't" I like black metal? Either than a few songs/bands, it's all just noise to me.

I don't know what to say, really. You don't like, you don't like, I'm not in the habit for enforcing a canon for what every metalhead should like. As always, if someone asks me for recommendations I'd give a serious response, but in my mind, not every metalhead is going to like every subgenre.

I'd like to add Anthrax as well.

I agree with that assessment but for me it's not just that I can't stand Belladonna's voice.

Dissection.

As I sit here trying to get into Storm of the Light's Bane for like the 5th time I can't help but label it as mediocre melodeath. I just don't see why they have such a legendary status amongst the black metal elite when they aren't even black metal nor that impressive.
