Wish I had known Trist from Mares was playing bass on this album. I would've congratulated her for having one of the best albums of the year.

Why shouldn't it be your thing? It is one of those "gay" (to use your mocking words) USBM bands.

IMO it sounds too much like Tool to be black metal, but is enjoyable regardless.

I was making fun of...never mind, haha.

Cobalt are not in the same group as WITTR, Skagos, Krallice, etc. Completely different style of black metal. Don't usually enjoy black metal without a sense of melody, but I like dis.

Woahzah. This ain't much like the other Agalloch I've heard...but like their other stuff, it's really good. Maybe my favorite from them.

Fairly big gripe is the vocals, though--that croak just doesn't fit the music, IMO. Whenever he does the "harsh" vocals, I find myself wishing that there were powerful clean vocals instead (although I'm almost always wishing for powerful clean vocals...) or at the very least, some passionate screaming. Actually, the very least would be that he just shut up, which would be better.

Ironically, I prefer this to their latest effort, but the vocals work a lot better on the newer one's more black metal-type atmosphere.
