Very harsh. What I've heard from this album suggested it's their most interesting release to date, which, granted, being Hate Eternal isn't saying a great deal, but still.

It seemed too muddy. Not as clear as the stuff with Roddy. Although I may have been too harsh for sure.

Wow! Morbid Angel's travesty gets a good review, and Hate Eternal's Phoenix Amongst the Ashes gets a bad review. The new Hate Eternal is incredible. The new Morbid Angel is a lazy album without focus or direction. There are very memorable parts on the new Hate Eternal album. The Art of Redemption has one of the catchiest and most adventurous guitar parts I've ever heard. Hate Eternal are writing top tier death metal with a unique and distinct character. They sound like a tornado whistling in sweeping rhythms and growling with ferocious power. Trust me, get Hate Eternal and be amazed. If you get Morbid Angel you will be disappointed.

This album slays, I don't understand the bashing treatment Hate Eternal gets here. Crushing and surprisingly quite varied riffs, awesome solos, brutal vocals and a constant stream of blast beats, what more do you want from this style of death metal?

I think this review is too harsh, and I more or less agree with the two previous posts above.

I've given this album numerous spins and while I think its not the greatest death metal album ever written it definitely has its moments.

As for the sound being muddy... That's just crazy. That's my judgment after hearing it on bose speakers, klipsch earbuds and denon headphones.
