It's always the really successful or well regarded bands that take fucking forever to release an album even though they're supposed to release it years earlier. Ex: Morbid Angel, Blind Guardian, Guns n' Roses. ETC.

I mean, first of all. I feel shitty for even discussing this in this manner. I mean, there's no reason to assume the worst from the guy or that it is somehow okay to throw things out there like this. He doesn't deserve accusations and the fans don't deserve it either. If anyone happens to read this thinking this is anything but speculation on why an album would take so long, from anyone, you are reading into it.

Anyway

I can't remember exactly what I wrote originally, but if he is an alcoholic his problem is extremely serious if that is the cause for the delay. I've seen a lot of drugs incapacitate people, but I can't imagine alcohol being that bad. As for Heroin, yeah, that's a stretch. It could be some other opiate or painkiller or such.

I'm curious, have you guys known people that are incapable of getting anything done at all because they are drinking. Anyone I've ever know has been functioning at least 10 hours a day. Maybe he has a job though and the old habits have to be fed once it's time to go home, no matter what it is. Believe me, Ive been there and done that. It's really easy to be stupid after you've been working all day because you feel you earned it at least.

I hope everything is going well for the guy.

From all I understand, Jari's an insane perfectionist with equipment/circumstances making it hard for him.

It's been way too long, though.

A huge plus one to this. Every big consumer of alcohol I've ever known has been more than capable of putting a reasonably hard day's work in, including myself. That line about feeling you deserve it after a long day is so true.

Yeah, that line is so full of truthness. I like some red or white wine and a big joint of weed after working all day. I deserve it!!!

This is the only place I've ever heard anyone claim Jari is an alcoholic. Or at least to any significant degree. Source? Or is this all just speculation? Considering how many beer guzzlers there are in the metal scene, I highly doubt it has anything to do with alcohol. The heroin suggestion seems really fucking far fetched...

Anyways, to be honest from what he wrote on the website and on the band's forum he is a ridiculous perfectionist considering he seems insistant upon the 64 bit plugins. Either that or he's lost some interest in the whole thing over time himself but doesn't want to admit it or give the project up since it's already been hyped for so long.

Also, they're going to start touring this summer as well, playing old songs and some new songs that will be on Time as well. We'll see how that affects thing.

I don't get that. 255db of dynamic range versus over 1000 or more that would be possible with 64 bits is going to have identical results to our 150db sensitivity assuming he releases this in High-Def. I know the theory of why this is done because you don't want the noise adding up. The problem is that if everything is done at even 24-bit, there will be zero noise once it goes down to 16-bit. The guy would basically have to be using thousands of tracks that are going to add 3db of extra noise every time they are doubled. 128 Tracks would add 24db of noise floor. Minus 255 leaves you with 231db of noise free DR. Far above the 96db S/N that CD supports.

That is why buying anything recorded analog at 24-bits is a waste of time and money, unless it is better than 44.1Khz, the real measure of quality. CD was 16-bit because the noise floor ends up probably 30db lower than tape, which is extremely quiet.

I think the guy might have OCD. Not working on the album due to something that is of zero consequence seems a bit much. Especially for something that will only have 6db of headroom max by the time it is mastered. The guy may be taking the software companies advice when I don't think they themselves understand the hard numbers involved. "Just to be safe" theory is awfully counterproductive in this case.

Hm. Hard to tell too much from the video, but still sounds potentially cool.

Listening to it now, and it's giving me chills.

Anticipation is at max power!

For srs, guys

Even though it's a live video, and the sound quality isn't the best (still good for live videos on YouTube, though), it's fucking amazing.

Jari better hurry his ass up with this.

They're playing in Eindhoven somewhere in October. He said they'll play 10 minutes of new music so I'll probably go.

Yeah, that was awesome. This album might actually be worth the wait.
