It's really difficult for me to tell the difference between classical composers beyond general "happy" or "sad" music. To be honest, if I feel like listening to classical, it really doesn't matter which composer it is--it'll fit the bill. Unless it's like 20th century minimalist stuff, which is rly boring in my experience.

Classical has had so long to establish the classics that in general any composer who's name you've heard is really fucking good. Also I think picking up the differences between types is something that comes with experience, or probably something you can already do if you compare p diff stuff:

Generally agree about minimalist stuff although I love Tom Johnson's Hour for Piano because it reminds me of snow falling and is great music to read to.

Pianos are so great.

It'd be really hard to pick my favorite melody, but this one's a definite contender:

Listening to it now, it really actually might be. The way it comes back in at 1:16 makes me giddy.

Also, yeah, piano is an instrument I find myself falling more and more in love with as time goes on. I posted this one a while back, and it still haunts me. Crazy intense.

Oh man I love that piece. So soothing and relaxing even though it's traditionally a holiday piece I can listen to that all year and not get sick of it :dio:

Ah... Divine Bach, it's absolutely mind blowing how he was such a technical composer and came out of it such sublime melodies. Schumann too is an all time favourite composer especially for his symphonies, although, his piano pieces and his chamber music are very much up there too. Let's not forget Brahms and Dvorak too, there are so many great ones in classical music.

King Crimson

Hawkwind
Anekdoten

I could never get into Ligeti or Haydn; any favourites for a King Crimson, Yes, or a Pink Floyd album?

Red, Closer to the Edge, and Animals.

Your thoughts?

Exactly the same but I would add "In the Court of the Crimson King" and "Wish You Were Here" to the list. Timeless pieces!

King Crimson's best albums by far are their live releases (Absent Lovers, Vrooom Vrooom, Elektrik). Studio stuff never comes close to the energy those have.

You see, I haven't heard any of there live albums so I wouldn't know, but I can certainly imagine what energy they would deliver.

I'd definitely recommend the albums I mentioned. Absent Lovers is 80s material, Vrooom Vrooom 90s, and Elektrik 00s. USA is a p good show from the 70s but never gotten into it as much as the other three. I feel like I might find the perfect live recording for their 70s incarnations someday but I also might not like those line-ups as much.

I'll check it out, Cheers.
