Ripper was just the wrong choice to replace Barlow. Actually, I think anything Ripper sings on brings it down.

There were no good choices to replace Barlow. Ripper was as good as anyone and did a fine job in my opinion.

Ripper was good on The Glorious Burden.

My problem is the Something Wicked albums which have both vocalists.

What Iced Earth need to do (IMO):

1. Strip sound back to the more Thrashy approach on Night of the Storm Rider.

2. Write some faster songs instead of the mid-tempo stuff that dominates now. Variety is the spice of life!

3. Barlow to stop trying to sound operatic.

4. Get rid of the keyboards/orchestras.

Iced Earth and speed sounds like a winning recipe, this is an excellent post.

There are tons of singers out there who could have done better than Ripper. Although it probably was never an option and probably could never have been an option...but the guy from Persauder would have been great!

I do agree though, IE needs to get some more speed. A few solos would be nice also. Also, IE seems to be repeating the same riffs over and over on the last few albums.
