Is it just me or do Meshuggah fans seem to be reaching the same obnoxious levels of uninhibited fellating as Tool fans?

I think they respond in kind to the constant trashing of the band by its many detractors, but I have no idea for sure which came first.

Tool fans are the worst. I used to be one until it became boring once I learned everything surrounding the band. It was way lamer than the mysterious side that made them really interesting and good.

Meshuggah is not for me. Seriously, a whole album with one main riff? How conveniently lazy and avante garde.

The thing is that the riff never gets old.

Unlike Adveser's theory of everything.

I agree with this part at least. Really not interested in finding out exactly what (probable) batshit nonsense they believe - the mystery is better.

I think every musician has fans like that, Tool just has lots because they're really popular.

idk, you don't see too many Katy Perry fans saying that she's the smartest singer on earth and getting tattoos of her lyrics and sayng how "California Girls" changed their lives and opened their eyes.

I think it's that way with bands that have at least some sort of "mystique" to them, because Radiohead fans are the exact same way, and I think that a common trait between Tool, Meshuggah and Radiohead is that they all seem kinda introverted as far as bands go.

I don't even really like tool anymore. Nor do I like Radiohead anymore.

It is indeed. It was a fun jigsaw puzzle for about 6 months, but once you see that their ideas are not their unique ideas but are culled from esoteric sources, it is far less interesting.

For the record they are Thelemites basically and most of their ideas can be traced back to it in some fashion or the core ideas surrounding it.

Well it figures. I think he used to sleep on the floor at Anton LaVey's house and met Marilyn Manson there.

Satanists are quite good at turning their fans into loyal sheep.

Hell, just look at me and my Akercocke worship. I'm hip to the game but just as susceptible to it.

There needs to be some research done on what makes certain band's fanbases so smug.

I don't worship anyone or any band but I love music so therefore I'm really into music and get really hooked on bands. I definitely don't worship Trent Reznor, I think he's a genius musician, but I do not follow him. NIN's inspired me to play piano recently and I've learned a number of his songs, so I am grateful for that.
