I'm actually quite looking forward to the new Pirates of the Caribbean now I know Orlando Bloom isn't in it and Ian McFuckingShane is!

Holy shit. Probably the most frightening/intense movie I've ever seen.

Seriously?? I got about halfway through and turned off. Might have tae give it another go.

Huh...that baffles me, haha. It's just a great movie--what didn't you like?

Well...did you like it?

Sorry bro, missed this. Yes, great stuff. I was under the influence when I watched it, so found the Russian roulette scenes where the Viet Cong kept slapping people rather hilarious.

Just watched OSS 117: Rio ne répond plus. Not as good as the first, but still hilarious.

Good, glad you liked the film; I did too. It was probably my favorite Deniro performance, which is obviously saying something. Most of the stateside criticism was reserved for the lengthy Orthodox wedding scene, which didn't bother me as it showed a particular strand of American life which a number of us probably weren't familiar with exactly. Perhaps the scene was a touch too long; what did you think?

I live on the Philadelphia side of the state of Pennsylvania, opposite from where the film took place, but I do feel qualified to say the film depicted life in Western Pennsylvania very well.

I think that was the whole point of the lingering wedding scene, to depict life before Vietnam changed them. Humanises them before all the dehumanising... similar effect to the wedding in The Godfather.

But the wedding scene was still too long. Cutting ten or fifteen minutes of the damn hour long scene wouldn't have been awful. I always felt like the actual roulette scenes were so surreal and wondered if taking them as supposed to be real ruins the film. I haven't watched the film in a while but something was off and I felt it was better read as psychological revision.

Me too. Also Penelope Cruz is in it rather than that photoshopped crack whore look alike.

Add some sexy Latina action to the movie and maybe this time we will have something to watch other than pretty CGI and Johnny Depp as "oh he is so goofy and hilarious at the same time".

I think Roger Ebert had the psychological read on the roulette scenes, and I felt much more comfortable with that read on the scenes after reading his review, or rather defense of the movie.

The Evil Dead - Enjoyed enormously, looking forward to seeing the others.
The Tourist - Fun but meh. Depp was a bit miscast, plot twist was veeeery obvious. Paul Bettany was probably the best thing, actually, so kudos to rio for a fine performance.

Expect quite a departure in style in the later films.

Evil Dead 2 & 3 > 1

Will do.

Just heard very sad news that Pete Postlethwaite has died. Brilliant actor, RIP.

He was an amazing actor. He was the kind of actor who made every scene he was in better, even if only for a few moments.

21 years with cancer. That is bad ass. May he rest in peace.
