I've been active in a hardcore scene because there is no metal scene where I live. I agree, though for the most part, metal shows depending on venue and band are a lot more impersonal. Hardcore shows on the other hand, involve a lot of in your face tribalistic movement, mic grabs, and even when you're not in the pit you get hit. The energy is usually a lot more than a metal show, and it's that kind of atmosphere that breeds a lot of the intensity. Usually, at metal shows they go to see the bands, at hardcore shows they go to do that plus to get involved.
Yeah. That's how it is here. The metal scene has been ho hum since they knocked down a venue here about 6 years ago that would get everyone from Cannibal Corpse to Dimmu. It was a shitty bowling alley but they had a good venue there that would always fill up, all the metalheads would be there... So you could really just go to any show and talk it up.
But anyway, I agree. Hardcore shows tend to have a lot of energy, like with metal, a lot of kids get really serious about the music and that definitely shows at these gigs.
