The Blob (remake) - The practical gore effects in this movie are great.

I've seen the original while drinking with friends. One of the best evenings of my life. Definitely one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

The Joaquin Phoenix movie was bollocks and The Social Network was a lot of drama for a story that was pretty weak.

Yeah, the original is also quality. The intro music is hilarious (Beware of the Blob!). You don't really see the blob horrifically annihilate people in the original, though, whereas that's mostly all of what the 80s remake is. And it's wonderful.

Four Lions - Wow. Hilarious, and chilling. I wonder what American audiences will think of this, about as black as humour can get. Morris is a genius, and Riz Ahmed is a great actor. He needs to get more roles.

Fuck yeah. Anyone interested in the prequel coming out with April? I honestly think they could do great things with it, as long as they don't go overboard with CGI.

Edit: found this quote from a description of a set visit:
Quote:
Effects co-designer Alec Gillis emphasizes what we’ve heard before, that there will be a mix of practical and CGI effects, with practical work used wherever possible.

Woohoo, no CGI overkill! The alien in the first movie was fucking awesome without any use of computer animation.

See, I'm not really interested in the prequel, because I don't really care how they got to the beginning of the first film.

The mystery of what happened before is part of what makes the first film creepy. I'm not really too fond of over-explanation in situations like this (see Halloween remake, this, proposed new Alien movie(s)). The fear of the unknown can be a powerful thing, and to over-explain everything gets rid of this fear.

Plus I already know how it ends.

Yeah, pretty much. The Thing is about ZOMG THAT MAN'S CHEST JUST BIT HIS ARMS OFF WTF, not aliens how do they work. Will probably end up watching it out of curiosity, however. Who's directing?

Erm... okay then.

It has potential to turn out great, but it's very likely that it won't. For it to succeed, it needs a similar plot to the original, where the alien is loose in a station in antarctica and the suspense is crazy because you have no idea who the alien could be imitating. I'm excited to see it, but wary.

Inception again. Same feelings as the first time roughly. Fun stuff overall but gets way too convoluted in the last third. Thought I'd make better sense of it this time around but I did a bit of mushrooms so yeah that didn't happen.

Dawn Of The Dead - great stuff. I like how he goes all kung-fu at the end out of nowhere.
