Well you mentioned getting to Beasteater but maybe you just listened to the songs on their myspace. Was a little disappointed because the Biclops demo version of that song sounded better than final version iirc. Clean vox on album have weird effects and panning going on that i do not fully approve of.

No, I have a promo copy (digital). I have to either REALLY like something or have an axe to grind to write about it without having been given a free copy. The first time I listened to it, I got through about four songs and was actually pretty excited, but then when I sat down to write it, I listened to it all the way through and then went back and revisited certain parts and was side-by-siding it with OX and the shortcomings I wrote about surfaced.

Other than both bands having screaming, they don't sound much like Coalesce.

This is pretty good, I need to give it another spin though.

I really like the artwork here, and I knew this review would piss noodles off :D . Will try and give this a listen soon.

Stupid review is stupid. Comparing two albums in a review isn't the greatest starting point and comparing two albums that aren't even really similar is really fucking stupid.

Especially when you call one band unoriginal because of the comparison. Only thing he got right is that EotW're less angry >:[

Wow, dude. Devastatingly thorough and insightful criticism. Please share some more pointers. Unless you're just a fan of noodley pillow-biting shit like this. We probably won't get anywhere if that's the case.

strong criticism

omg I can go where trapt and steve have failed!

-You do a woefully inadequate job of describing their music. By comparing them to Coalesce, mentioning Converge, and making no other concrete effort to describe their general sound, you make them sound like a Deathwish band with effeminate clean vocals.

-You talk about Axe to Fall for three sentences when it's not relevant.

-You contradict yourself. Sinking "to the bottom of failure bay" doesn't = 7/10 to me.

-"The employment of these clean vocals is especially unsatisfying when they occur immediately adjacent to the harsh vocals, as on Fleshmaker." is an ugly sentence.

-You do a good job of transitioning between paragraphs.

-You talk about the clean vocals way too much when your only definite criticism of them is that they're whiny.

This album is a solid combination of Botch and BTBAM with a strong hint of Protest the Hero. What's there to complain about?

I think my biggest complaints about the review are the irrelevant comparisons and the harsh criticism not equal to the score. A 7/10 isn't what you described.

I really hate the clean vocals. Kinda preventing me from listening to this more. =( Otherwise it's good.

Just go their MySpace page. You can see what they sound like. (This isn't flippant. Well, it is flippant, but it's a serious point. In the age of bittorrent, MySpace, stereogum streaming, $5 digital albums, and per-track purchasing, do you really still rely on reviews to find out what something "sounds like?" Can of worms? I hope so. Let's get it on, boys!)

-You talk about Axe to Fall for three sentences when it's not relevant.

True, but that doesn't mean it's not interesting in and of itself.

-You contradict yourself. Sinking "to the bottom of failure bay" doesn't = 7/10 to me.

True. These elements are discrepant. I lack a meaningful explanation. Will keep this kind of thing in mind.

-"The employment of these clean vocals is especially unsatisfying when they occur immediately adjacent to the harsh vocals, as on Fleshmaker." is an ugly sentence.

Wordy, yes. Ugly? Idk, maybe.

-You do a good job of transitioning between paragraphs.

Thank you.

-You talk about the clean vocals way too much when your only definite criticism of them is that they're whiny.

Agreed. Could probably have made the point with less words.

Whoops. Jacked the quote process up there. My responses are under the hyphenated points.
