As an avid fan of the metal genre, I tend not to be to crass toward a genre, but by God, I can't fucking stand metalcore! IT'S EVERYWHERE! I can't escape it!

Headbanger's Ball? Yeah right. Metalcore's Ball (as I like to refer to it--and this does carry merit) is 2 hours of non-stop "WAHH-WAHH screamo vocals, chugga-chugga riffs, breakdowns, and "Oh, the girl in glass screams love from December's trees of everlasting poetry and blood-soaked memories"-type lyrics. Granted, I'm not an avid MTV2 viewer, but at times I would click by it and see a Suffocation, Nile, or Pig Destroyer video. But that was then, and this is now. And now sucks.

Here's the dilemma with this vomit-inducing genre: It confuses you. In saying this, nu-metal was nu-metal. You could easily tell the difference between Morbid Angel and Korn, or Limp Bizkit and In Flames. Now, with MC, you can't! I don't know, when I turn on satellite radio or Winamp, whether I'm listening to some nice melodic death metal, or more recycle bin metalcore that blatantly rips "At The Gates" riffs! The metal wannabees are even worse. Now that their backwards-red Yankees hat and depressed Baskersfield, CA-genre is dead as shit, they naturally turned to metalcore. Now, because of the genre's punishing sound, they pass this afterbirth off as being "extreme hardcore duuude I am teh metal 666" I've even seen reviews calling Lamb of God, Shadows Fall, God Forbid, and other bands of their ilk "modern thrash"...GAG! Modern Thrash is Strapping Young Lad, not some half-head shaved, black fingernail polish queer who writes lyrics of emoish content. I can't even forsee this genre dying, since technically it is a part of metal. Nu was so far off the radar, that it was destined to die. But this genre is on the surface as well as underground.

Now, there is some decent metalcore, say old Underoath, old Poison the Well, and Zao. But a good percentage of the genre is garbage, and there's frightfully no end in sight.

I can't even stand Poison the Well. I can't stand any band somewhat related to Hardcore, mostly because of the vocals, but otherwise because of the extremely cheap songwriting.

Anyways I don't bother turning on MTV (or my television in general). The only place I have noticed metalcore actually somewhat threatening metal, is Metalblade. They've been signing a LOT of utter rubbish lately.

It's very true, you just have to look at the lineups of major festivals and tours (in the U.S., of course) to see it. Half the stuff that comes through the radio station's loud genre (our category for metal, punk, hard rock and ska) is crappy metalcore. Of course, Mass is a huge epicenter of the genre, but the proportion of metalcore to other stuff is still quite skewed.

Underoath sucks dude.

Anyways yeah, I agree with you for the most part. Most people these days are getting into metalcore instead of good metal. It pisses me off.

i think you're confusing that gay emo shit with "metalcore". bands like god forbid or whatever don't have that kind of gay-ass lyrics... i think.

anyways, i admit that i thought that the mix of hardcore, melodic death and thrash was "refreshing" first, but now yeah it's straight-out boring... just like the explosion of bands that sounded JUST LIKE converge, the dillinger escape plan, etc, etc.

one very nice band to come out of that, though, imo is UNEARTH. kick ass!

It's definitely just not you... I hear you, man. Not even the time to let out a sigh of relief because rapcore had finally faded into oblivion where it belongs, and here comes the assault of angsty teens shouting at the top of their lungs. Gaaaahh...

I can't even escape it...A local radio metal show, whom the host I call in and talk to on the air a lot, has converted his playlist from Fear Factory, Testament, Death, and Metallica to Agony Scene, Chimaira, and the other cookie cutter bands. And I know, although he can't say for fear of his job, that this playlist change was courtesy of the powers that be. Now he has to announce the next song by Diecast with enthusiasm that I know he doesn't really have. Even the beautiful Mistress Juliya of Fuse has to VJ this crapulence...And when they mess with Juliya, that's just going to far.

At least you have a metal radio station. All we have around here is pop radio and classic rock stations. We do have one station that plays hair metal, metallica, zepplin, that kind of thing. But, they still play a lot of Creed, Nickle back, and that kind of crap as well. The music scene in the midwest (USA) sucks!!!

c'mon dudes ! you cry because there's only metalcore while MTV and most medias are filled with crappy RAP, horrible RNB and bad bad bad country (for the US) or anykind of domestic crap popular these days....

I personally have no problem with metalcore or emocore or hardcore or any of those genres... call me a faggot, a poser or whatever you wish, I couldn't care less

actually, i'm enjoying the new Avenged Sevenfold and it the best thing I heard this year you could relate to power metal or classic heavy metal... and bands like KsE, LoG, Shadows Fall are very enjoyable in my humble opinion....

The grand majority of anything always, ALWAYS sucks.. right now Metalcore is reaching critical, banal mass.. it was nu-metal before and I'm sure melodeath will come next.

Most of these bands do piss me off though.. I don't even really like Lamb of God or KsE. Thank teh gods for DEP and Mastodon, I guess.

I have aproached metalcore with an open mind. Honestly it does absolutly nothing for me.

I can enjoy some metalcore, but there's so much of the stuff, it's impossible to find good stuff.

The rest is merely OK, with the odd few (Mendeed, Unearth) being slightly better.

And all i haves to say about metalcore is that like three metalcore bands are actually good but i fucking hate the fans. Its like if you try to tell them something from one of their "hardcore" bands sounds like a metal band they act like you dont know what their talking about. I mean come the fuck on, most of their riffs are at the gates rip offs....At the Gates would be huge if they were still around! Ive come to the conclusion that anything with the suffix "core" just fucking sucks....they should just call it medio-core...FUCK THOSE WHIGHT BELT WEARING FAGS! Mainstream metal has gone straight back to where it was in the late eighties. I know this because I watched Headbangers ball the other day.

They had a a metal core band,(i wanna say Diecast, not to sure with this shit) that goes into a beverly Hills home and has a concert by the pool while the family watches in horror at the metal-nes of the band. The mother then lets her hair down and becomes a video vixen you would expect to see in a bon jovi Video.
If it was on mute i would have thought it was cinderella or poison.

Seeing this incredibly stupid relapse into over the top cookie cutter bands doing stupid things, I miss the simple days of mainstream "metal" :?: being the The static-X's and Drowning Pools.

At least there was no serious argument over whether that shit was credible or not.

There's nothing more fucking annoying than hearing a genuinely good bit of a song that turns out to be Metalcore crap. Example - a few weeks ago, I'm walking through town and I pass one of those Goth fashion (emphasis: fashion) shops and I heard this fucking killer lead part/solo, so I stuck around to see if I could place the band and then......oh God then.... "RARRAARRARR *INHALE* RARRARRARR.....whine.....whine.....the most beautiful girl in a universe of pain drowned me in her tears......RARRARRARRARR"
