Nice choice for a review, the two bands styles compliment each other very nicely.
Strange, some of the best material regarding BM is found on splits.

Good week for reviews.

Agree. I was always wondering why. Any opinion?

I couldn't say, really... same thing with a lot of EPs, incidentally.
Maybe just the act of collaboration (in a sense) evokes a certain level of creativity, one's energy feeding off of the others, or it could just be one of those weird unexplainable things when synergy is channeled and focused into a common end result. It just seems to happen.

But whatever it is, this is a very solid album, and it warms my heart (haha) to see it getting a nod here. Keep 'em coming, this stuff is not really too widely known outside of die hard BM fanatics, and really is very good.

I prefer the TIP half slightly over the Khrom half, myself, though... darker and more cavernous somehow.
Cheers.

TIP, is, or was a solid band. I preferred the alter-ego band Beatrik, and thank cotb for sharing both me, but regrettably both are gone now.

I do like splits in black metal, particularly when two similar bands approacha similar style in a different way, like the excellent Paysage d'Hiver/Lunar Aurora split.

It's always better when a band, or individual, as the case may be knows when to hang it up, though.

Certainly. But I didn't think these guys had quite exhausted their creative abilities.

Who knows, TIP was mainly a one man project (founding co-member left pretty early on, replaced by a new drummer; though it was the bassist that left), perhaps he felt the well of inspiration drying up.
Perhaps he just wants to move onto something else.
If he continue to create music, I'd be interested to hear it.

I guess the split thing is partly to do with resources, also. It can't be that easy get label support for a lot of these bands so they have to be a bit DIY and that means collaborations and smaller-scale releases.
