So, has anyone else here heard the new single Gateways yet? I'm a more casual fan of the band, enjoying most of their catalogue, and this new tune is alright. I heard a friend call them Cradle of Borgir when they showed it to me, which I can see and hear. Its even less BM now, I'd personally say its almost entirely symphonic modern metal with a death influence lol, but genres be damned.

Overall I like it but there are a few drawbacks. It is very vocal centric now, at least this song, and I am not a big fan of music that focuses so squarly on the vocals. At least here they're catchy enough I suppose. The tone on the lead guitar is good and the leads/solo were nice, Galder being awesome as usual. Overall I like it better than their last effort, which has barely touched my cd player or Ipod. I'm gonna have to pick it up on day one when it hits, since I don't mind their pomp and glamour. Opinions?

it's going to be a trainwreck..

The music was alright, nothing really memorable. Actually I can't remember what it sounded like. I only recall those awful, horrendous, annoying female vocals which totally put me off. I've got the feeling this will be worse than ISD, which was just boring. But this one might be actually bad.

What annoys me about DB and cough turning into Gothic Metal bands is that they're really rather bad at it. I rediscovered Tristania's debut yesterday, and it's great, heavy, serious, miserable music, like a leftfield My Dying Bride album - COF and DB are laughable in comparison. Even compared to that great After Forever album I archived for yesterday, the new Cradle and Dimmu songs just sound poor, with none of the catchiness or widescreen glorious epicness that proper Gothic Metal bands can pull off so easily. They lost their atmospheric touch when they dropped the Black Metal. And yes, their female singers now are godawful. I still sort of like Cradle (scored their last album highly enough, after all) but they'll have to pull something spectacular to impress me after that song.

Not reviewing either of the new cough or Demon Burger albums, by the way.

Well, I hope someone else will then. I'm not hoping for a positive review or anything remotely close. I'd just like to read somebody's take on it here rather than somewhere else.
I've always enjoyed DB more than CoF though, Danni's vocals annoy the shit out of me.

God this band is terrible. I don't normally comment when I straight up dislike a band, but for some reason I feel compelled to when it comes to Dimmu.

Have you seen their picture promoting the new album, the one that Shaggy is wearing that odd outfit? I'm nto expecting much from the album, but if you aren't reviewing it then who is?

In Sorte Diaboli was decent. So is the new song, but it doesn't give me hope that the new album will be better. Sadly, with all the quality releases of late, I don't have time for decent stuff. They have to be good.

Snowy was pissed that they released those pictures so he quit. Shagrath told him they were for "his eyes only". He didn't want those to be all over the internet. Dimmu is a bunch of jerks.

Jerks indeed. If they just made an ep after EDT with say 'Insight and the Catharsis' and 'Progenies of the Apocalypse' then promptly broke up, I would remember them fondly. But then I would remember Stormblast...

As a male if you were caught in a photo shoot with those boots, admit you'd quit too as a sheer aspect of humiliation, not to mention being in Dimmu Borgir, his departure is understandable
