I'm not claiming to be an expert on the matter.

I'm just saying you're propigating a stereotype about which you have no personal experience.

Which is fine, I guess. I'm just bored.

The only true guide for life we have are the witty observations and conclusions of professional comedians. And they all say marriage sucks.

Krallice, Shining and Cobalt sound completely different than anything like Mayhem, Darkthrone or Emperor. Just youtube "Blackjazz" or something.

Youtubing "blackjazz" is something everybody should do right now if they haven't already. However, it won't get you to any black metal.

But yeah, the Swedish Shining, Cobalt, Nachtmystium, Enslaved, Oranssi Pazuzu, and so forth, are all bands I'd recommend to anyone that wants to look for creative and accessible recent BM that is very different from the 90s classics.

Maybe you don't consider Negura Bunget that accessible either? I wasn't sure if I should recommend them to our new old guy or not.

Man, if you like old CoF than you should give Bal-Sagoth a go. It's similar to CoF, but it's more power metal-y and has this cool sci-fi narrative structure to it (that's a bit hokey, admittedly).

Yeah, personally I reckon NB are kinda hard to get into, especially someone who isn't really into BM all that much. However, no doubt they belong on anybody's "to check out" list for creativity (if not accessibility)

Welcome aboard dead1. If thrash is your preferred genre, you might want to check out Municipal Waste . I personally haven't listened to them, but they seem to be gaining in popularity. Austrian Death Machine is another thrash band formed a couple of years ago whom you may give a listen.

Agreed. Bal Sagoth is great. Dawn of Relic is another band that's not exactly BM, more of Dark metal, but very enjoyable.

Heard Bal-Sagoth a long, long time ago. They were cool but I forgot about them as one does sometimes.

I also checked out Nachtmystium from their Assassins album. It was really different and pretty cool stuff.

As for marriage and sex, dancing helps the latter thus making you happier with the former.

Check out Scar Symmetry, especially the album Holographic Universe. Some great melodic death metal.

Also, if your looking for some new and innovative stuff, check out Protest the Hero's last two albums, Kezia and Fortress. They take tons of great metal and non-metal influences and create some kickass songs.
