Existenz - I love Cronenberg but this one is just pure fucking bullshit.

 Poor old Ebert. Fuck cancer.

I love his blog. It's the only one I read on a consistent basis.

@Existenz: That movie was pretty dumb after watching it the first time. It's just how the story was set up that just makes it seem goofy. Why the video game was organic is beyond me.

I like Cronenberg's Eastern Promises a lot and History of Violence and Crash were decent. Existenz was just bad. I want to see Naked Lunch but I didn't like the book at all so I doubt his approach to it would make it any better.

Naked Lunch is fantastic. I still think his best is Videodrome, still have to watch Spider which looks very promising from the trailer.

It's like a less refined Princess Mononoke.

Yeah, and totally fucking boring. I was excited to watch it having read the reviews but I just didn't see what was so great about it. Princess Mononoke is cool though.

It was good, but it was far from Ghibli's best.

Viscerally disturbing movie.

Yeah, Videodrome is solid. I also liked The Brood. The pacing was a bit off, but conceptually the movie is quite cool. The "birthing" scene at the end is creepy.

Also, I had high hopes for Scanners, but the main actor in that film killed it for me. He sucked. I get the "But he was a scanner!" defense, but it seems more like retro-actively making excuses than an actual reason to me.

I need to see more Cronenberg films, though. I've been meaning to watch Crash having read the novel. Has anyone seen Rabid or Shivers (or rather 'Orgy of the Blood Parasites')?

haha, I have Scanners, it's collecting dust in my closet... man, talk about a blast from the past.
Seen Rabid, it was kind of boring (at least at the time I saw it, back in the early 80's)

Scanners had lots of potential but as you said, completely ruined by some of the worst performance by an actor ever...

yeah, but horrible acting has it's merits; it adds an element of comedy, though whether or not that is a good or bad thing for a movie like Scanners, is debatable.

Example:
Bound By Honor (Blood In, Blood Out) has some of the most overwrought acting I've ever seen, and that makes the whole thing enjoyable.

A Bay Of Blood - by Mario Bava

Beautifully shot and such a great ending

That's an interesting one. Supposedly the model for Friday the 13th, from what I read somewhere.

It's pretty good. Wants to be more than it is, but you could do a lot worse.

Land Of The Lost.

Pretty much exactly what I expected it to be, which isn't really a bad thing. It was kinda lame overall, but it had its moments. Will Ferrell has done MUCH better though.

Best line: "Marshall, do you know what this means??" "Yes... It means Matt Lauer can SUCK IIIIIIIIT!!!!!!!"

That tends to happen when a woman stops eating anything. I hope noodles shows up and accounts for himself.

I need my women to be skinnier than me or else I get intimidated. Also she's got the cute brunette thing going on in a big way

She's way too skinny in Zad's picture. Do not want.
