Now that it's actually out, what do you (fans only, please. No 'it's shit and they are shit' posts!) think of it?

It's shit and they are shit...

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

My GF's sister loves this band with great fanboyism so I hear them alot and its not bad, I think they are at the top of the nu metal scene thing. But still, its not something that I'd go buy especially since HMV has a deal where you get 2 Evergrey CDs for 25 bucks, thats right HMV, check your local listings.

There's always one...
Evergrey? Never heard of them (goes to look for reviews...comes back). Don't sound bad, I'll check them out.

Funny story with HMV, went the other day, got a Napalm D CD (EOTMB), bought it back, listened to it, it skipped on a track  so took it back the next day and since they didn't have another copy got Fear Factory-SOANM instead. Which is good. And it's not really funny, but....WTF.
I'll check the Evergrey next time I'm in there!

I tried to like their latest CD but I just couldn't. :(

The previous ones all had a sort of manic energy and something to say.. this one has plodding riffs and rockstar lyrics. Booo.

I haven't heard "Mesmerize" myself, but I heard it's good from a fan of the band (he's not a nu-metal fan, either, so I trust his judgment).

I agree. Their first 3 are fairly enjoyable but this one isn't very good.

So, is this album all party rock?

no, it's not

from the 2 spins I gave it, I can't tell you now if it's good or not.. let's say i didn't have the same "flash" had had with the previous three (specially Steal This Album). but I can't tell you what it's not : selling-out, senseless, a new St Anger...

let's give it some more time guys, sure it's more commercial but that was to expect since the guys are getting older...

SOAD is still SOAD... a band everyone should respect :)

I don't think St Anger was a "sell out" album. It just sucked.

Usually HMVs prices are so high they make me angry.

Ok, let me refrase my question, is the single from this album anything like the rest? I think it's called BYOB or something. I heard it on the radio and it was horrid.

I thought the single was Cigarro (which is the weakest song on the album)... and about BYOB, I think it's a fun song but it's nothing like the rest of the album which sounds like classic SOAD only a bit more commercial

I didn't hear the album but I'm pretty sure it is not for me. The song B.y.o.b is not any good except for the part that the guitarist screams "BLAST OFF".

Well anyway I'll try this album with my prejudice shield down and just care for the music.

But I still think they're fucking hypocrites and fascist capitalists. I heard an interview with them. I think I saw it in Yahoo Launch shit and they were still bitching about armenian genocide. They are saying they are against hate and war but still saying things that will raise anger and hate between two nations and trying to put Turkey in a position so we look like fucking terrorists. They're just scratching an old wound which has healed a long time ago.

Agreed w/ you on this one, if a band gets political it is just begging to be criticised. And SOAD's stuff (burning flags at concerts - was it you that mentioned that in a previous post?) reminds me not so much as a decent band on the verge of becoming very big as some terrorist rally in Gaza or somewhere.

laaame..

I sympathise with Kathaarian, but I don't see why bands don't have the right to sing about topics that concern them..

edit: the "laaaame" was not directed at Skartasis's post :)
