Possibly one of my favorite Devy albums ever? Every song is great. Probably only City and some of the other SYL stuff beats it right now.

Zad's dislike of Ziltoid is just wrong. N9, Hyperdrive, Ziltoidia Attax, fuck that album was just good barring the quickly tiring interludes. Z2 is on my highly anticipated list with the rest of the DTP quadrilogy(?).

Ziltoid has some of Devin's best songs (although imo every album of his has like 3-4 of his best songs) but it's let down a bit by the drum programming and general production. It lacks that extra depth that working with other musicians gives the rest of his album.

Addicted is really good. His most consistent album since Alien which is nice.

Honestly I think Alien is overrated. The last three songs do nothing for me and We Ride, Possesion and Shine aren't amazing either.

Damn! There's a load of albums on my wish-list this year and I'm sure this will be the best one of the lot! I agree with Noodles about Ziltoid; the drum machine does irritate the hell out of me although, in my opinion, I class it as the third best album by Devin behind City and Infinity. Best get shopping...

I never could quite dig on Alien. I thought the self-titled was better. Crazily enough, I think The New Black is the best SYL album. That's probably because I like Devin's solo stuff more and that album was the perfect mix of SYL and much of his solo styles.

Anyway, Addicted is brilliant. From beginning to end, just total awesomeness.

The s/t always gets a bad rap but its one of my favorites. The New Black's poppy attitude and use of bif naked's vocals seems to precede this album. The lyrics always seemed a little immature though but I've always heard that as Devin poking fun.

It seems so drastic to say this is one of his best albums when he's done so much but it's hard to say it isn't.

Devin Towsend amazes me

Still hesitant about this one. I've heard "Bend It Like Bender" a few times and it did get stuck in my head for an obscene amount of time. Its just that this is not my thing, normally, but its Devin. I will buy this soon, but I'm not sure if I'll like it or not.

I agree with Zad about Infinity.

It's not all as poppy/dance music as that. You should love it.

This album refuses to leave my car's CD player. It's just too good. It might be my album of the year, since I like every track on it, especially "Numbered" and "The Way Home". Aww hell, I like them all a lot.

To anyone leary about listening to it in fear of not enjoying the style... if you are a fan of Devin's works, you will find his signature stamped all over it. Although honestly, the review is correct about Devin in general -- the guy really could be a force in the mainstream. This album could have widespread appeal, since it explores a lot of sounds and genres. I recommend my friends who don't even like metal or Devin Townsend to at least give it a spin.

In-Ah sucks. Sounds like a bastardized version of Bush's Glycerine mixed with a bunch of other generic 90's grunge/alternative bands. The rest of the album rules though.

Yeah, sounds nothing like "Glycerine," or Bush, or any other 90s generic/alternative band. If anything, the song is more 80s pop. Great tune either way you look at it.

But I can see where the "tr00" music fans would have issue with it.

The chord progression is super generic but I think that's kinda the point of the song.

What are you talking about? its the exact same chord progression as glycerine by bush with the same strum pattern and everything! (FCDBb) Even some of the vocal patterns are similar.
Only difference is Dev puts the layers on like he always does and bush has nothing but the bare minimum playing.

Anyways, I've since grown an appreciation for the song after a few spins.
