Stand back people, I'm about to make a proclamation!

I LUUURRRVVV Mechanical Animals!

It is my guilty pleasure, my boogie woogie bugle-boy of company D album. It's fun, clever, obscene, and gleefully decadant. And if you listened to it for the first time without the knowledge of who made it, I guarantee that you'll love it too. That is, if you are willing to sneak into some glam/disco/industrial groove for a little while.

Because he is much more popular than any goregrind band out there. The media and people in general don't know shit about music so they aren't going to realize there are more "satanic" or whatever bands out there.

People honestly don't know about the existence of black metal? Poor them!

Indeed. I know most people here in America wouldn't know what the fuck you were talking about if you said something about black metal. They would probably think you were talking about MM. I'm not sure how it is in the rest of the world though.

Ehhh, never was a big fan. Manson himself has admitted millions of times he's basically one giant gimmick. Still, Antichrist had some good songs on it.

Can't stand his music but I agree with a lot of his opinions. I really liked how he handles the media, especially after the Columbine shootings.

I think Moore interviewed him on a film of his.... if I remember correctly he gave some good answers..

Good answers!?!?!? He basicly summed up Moore's conclusion perfectly after just 50 minutes, he obviously did a lot of thinking about that, but nonetheless he seemed very intelligent. Still I wonder why he behaves this stupid with all his drugstuff and whatever more, at least if I may believe the media (other sources pointed at that he smokes less weed than my mum, yes my mum smokes some every now and then for medical reasons). Anyways, I feel that he has too many filler songs on his albums.

This has, in a nutshell, been the motivation behind his (various) images:

On Antichrist (we won't really count the 2 albums before that) his idea was to present himself in a way that would most deeply offend America's bible belt. He was essentially personifying the very perverse activities that most of these people get up to behind closed doors.

After that [Mechanical Animals] he kind of got sick of the whole ugly image he had created for himself and wanted to reinvent himself as something not so much mainstream acceptable but more like (to use one of his analogies) a worm turning into a moth. This can possibly be traced back to his involvement with Charmed hornbag Rose McGowen. It was an honest attempt to become less gimmick and more artist. The tryhard goth fans didn't like that. The problem was that shit sticks and he couldn't get away from his ugly image.

Then Columbine happened and naturally he got the blame even though tweedle dumb and tweedle dumber didn't even like his music. So he went into hiding and brooded. Rose dumped him because her rising fame couldn't be compromised with being assosciated with him. Eventually he thought "well fuck you" and re-emerged back as his good old hate inducing self [Holy Wood]. It was his own backlash against all the unfair blame he was getting. This is actually a very sad (emotionally) album, worth a look.

But then the tryhard goths all whined that he was only doing it to regain his former popularity. But by now he has gone the very suspect Nu Metal route, and I don't know what the hell is going on there. Probably because Twiggy left the band and now the tool from KMFDM has essentially hijacked creative control.

The problem with Marilyn Manson lies in various things. He openly shocks for publicity to sell albums, the majority of his fans are fucking loser tryhards, he can't stick with one image and go with it (thus he constantly divides his fanbase), but he is a very sharp fellow who can really pen a good tune when he wants to.

his songs are catchy enought for him to be mainstream, but he is the most wicked thing in mainstream thus he became kind of like the poster boy for all creepy subcultures (including metal). at the end that horribly leads people to think that all metalheads dig MM.

rammstein seems to be working their way up to his throne. I don't know about you but, I hope to be associated with rammstein rather than MM (even though i don't like neither of them)

If I have to pick one "mainstream metal act" I'd rather be associated with, it would be System Of A Down for Manson is nothing more than easy provocation for the (US) masses and Rammstein have a "3rd Reich" tone I do not appreciate...

but, hey !, either Rammstein or MM are better than Korn, Limp Biscuit ( ) or Linkin Park (to name a few...)

Most of Rammstein's music is about dirty sex. Just because they are German doesn't make them Nazis. And apart fom their latest album they are very, very good.

They do subvert Nazi imagery a bit. And what's wrong w/ Reise Reise?

I never said they were Nazi and I know they aren't... it's just the short hair, the martial rythms and the singer's voice that give me the feeling... and btw, I think their 2nd album was pretty sweet 8)

Why not count they first two albums? "Portrait of an American Family" is great shock-punk. I'd take that over the lame and talentless Sex Pistols. Say what you will about MM, but at least his band can at least resemble knowing how to play which is more than I can say for Sid Fagcious.

actually, on Nevermind the Bollocks neither Steve Jones nor Sid Vicious really played.... the bass was handled by Glen Matlock (later replaced by Sid) and the guitar had been played by session-musician Chris Spedding (which the man confirmed me in an itw in 1990... check his wabsite too http://www.chrisspedding.com/ )

history class dismissed !

I hate Manson.

I can't believe he was signed by Trent Reznor.
