One new three-part song uploaded to MySpace, and it sounds like this will be another winner from the man.

This does sound pretty good. Fairly mellow, but good.

Sounds like Ayreon which I like very much. I'm gonna keep my eye out for this.

Everything Arjen does sounds like Ayreon. Not sure why he does projects. Just do all Ayreon albums. Haha.

Arjen is usually hit or miss with me. I didn't like his last release, a bit too ambitious perhaps. This Guilt Machine project sounds great! It sounds like Arjen, yet strangely refreshing. I can't really pinpoint what that is, as it's more then just the vocalist.

I heard the singer from the Belgian band Arid was singing on this one which is a great news. Just because of that, I'll try it.

I've listened through the album. It's fantastic all the way through. I suggest everyone picks it up when it comes out. (I do not profit from this endorsement)

So I pre-ordered the limited, signed edition from Mascot Records back in mid-August, and it's not got to me yet despite this having been out about a week. I hope that it's just delayed due to the intermittant postal strikes in England at the moment; bloody annoying otherwise. Apologies to everyone waiting for a review, I'd rather wait for it to arrive so I can mention the DVD too.

Edit: Mascot responded pretty quick, so little to complain about there.

I have a spare copy of the special, signed edition of this... anyone interested, make me an offer via email or PM.

You could send it back to Mascot. Or why not give it away in a Metal Reviews contest or something.

Or... money! Why sent it back to Mascot so they can resell it? It was a present, when I already brought the damn thing.

You got it as a gift? Or Mascot sent another because you said it hadn't arrive?

I'll do a competition, however. If you or Fridge win I shall curse the gods.

You dig it? Up to his usual standards, I think. Great stuff.

I love it. Problem is, I don't understand why this guy does any projects; they all sound too similar. I mean, outside of Vengeance and Bodine, and his one-time solo album, everything has pretty much sounded like Ayreon.

Well Ayreon is a concept band wich follows a certain story (minus actual fantasy), the story kinda finished with the last one so it wouldnt made sense to call this band Ayreon, plus most Ayreon fans are used to hear a lot of different "big" name vocalist on the albums, so i could only imagine the kind of backslah Arjen would get if he treated this album as the next proper Ayreon, silly i know but the same thing happened with stream of passion i believe if he would call that band Ayreon everyone would be like "OMG worst Ayreon ever!", in the end the smart thing to do is to give the bands different names.

Oh and i dont agree completely about the bands sounding too similar, take Star One for example, the band was made with vocalist and musicians that all had worked in Ayreon before and it sounds nothing like Ayreon, sure the similarities are here and there but the mood is completely different.

Sure, there are differences, but I still think they all share very similar sounds and styles which scream "ARJEN!"
