Dead Set is great, although it kind of loses something on repeated viewings. The ending is utterly crushing, though.

**SPOILERZ, sort of**

The way they just fuck the whole thing up in a matter of a few minutes is what I'd imagine to be the most painfully accurate rendition of what would actually happen in a zombie apocalypse.

The TV producer character was a bit OTT but the scene where he's carving up the tranny's corpse is shockingly visceral, considering you don't actually see that much.

Yeah, I too am generally pro-Dead Set. However, I also agree with the Peggmeister

The fast zombie is bereft of poetic subtlety. As monsters from the id, zombies win out over vampires and werewolves when it comes to the title of Most Potent Metaphorical Monster. Where their pointy-toothed cousins are all about sex and bestial savagery, the zombie trumps all by personifying our deepest fear: death. Zombies are our destiny writ large. Slow and steady in their approach, weak, clumsy, often absurd, the zombie relentlessly closes in, unstoppable, intractable.

However (and herein lies the sublime artfulness of the slow zombie), their ineptitude actually makes them avoidable, at least for a while. If you're careful, if you keep your wits about you, you can stave them off, even outstrip them - much as we strive to outstrip death. Drink less, cut out red meat, exercise, practice safe sex; these are our shotguns, our cricket bats, our farmhouses, our shopping malls. However, none of these things fully insulates us from the creeping dread that something so witless, so elemental may yet catch us unawares - the drunk driver, the cancer sleeping in the double helix, the legless ghoul dragging itself through the darkness towards our ankles.

Well, yeah, but...

Slow zombies - obviously the best
Fast zombies - good when handled properly
Zombies that go from shambling to sprinters as the needs of the shitty (probably Resident Evil) film demand - suckitude

Very true. Reminds me of Zombie Holocaust, although there it's more a case of the actors forgetting they're not supposed to run, and the director not noticing.

So, almost done Battlestar Galactica season 2. The first half was generally pretty awesome- focusing on the best characters like Baltar, Tigh, Tyrol, Adama and Roslyn is definitely a good idea. Importantly also, the drama flowed from one episode to another- there were very few random threats or characters that appear out of nowhere for one episode and which are then quickly resolved.

Unfortunately, the second half has kind of been the opposite. It started off very well with the Pegasus storyline, and there have been some good Baltar moments, but otherwise the writers have focused mainly on Apollo, easily the most annoying and useless character, and other characters who are nice in small doses but grate quickly (Starbuck, Dualla). I also don't like the plot in each episode deals with a problem we've never heard of before and introduces a new character who will be dead by the end of the episode with that problem neatly resolved- the next episode will then generally skip a month ahead so that no momentum can be built or repercussions felt (WTF? Seriously... the first season and a half takes place over three-four months or so and the last five episodes have jumped through five months or something ridiculous). The season's getting to an end, so hopefully we'll get back to plot, hopefully the interesting characters will get screentime, and hopefully Apollo will die in the next episode.

Watched the premiere of V tonight. Not bad at all, it had quite a few things I had never seen before, though it did have some unsurprising twists. I'll be watching the next episode.

that Heroes episode didn't make any sense and should have changed the entire timeline but it didn't.

Some nice moments though.

Dollhouse is turning out surprisingly awesome after a wobbly start. I actually whooped last night when I realised who Alpha was.

The Wire is so awesome.

Hey Zaddy see that big box set of The Shield that just came out? All 7 seasons, with a lot of bonus shit like deleted scenes, interviews, etc.. Looks pretty cool, I may pick it up.

I have them all individually, though. Hate it when they do things like that.

Joss Whedon shows are always like that. He has know idea how to write a first season (though I hear Firefly is the exception to this rule).

I only own seasons 5 through 7. So it would be cheaper for me to buy the boxset instead of buying 1-4 individually. Plus the bonus content that is not on the original versions.

I'm getting on it, I'm getting on it. I need to finish BSG first- speaking of which, the end of season 2 and the beginning of season 3 kick ass. It has become the most depressing show ever. Awesome.

Yes! BSG is the best, so is The Wire and Firefly . I wish I hadn't seen all these shows.
