With their new album having just been released, I felt it was time somebody finally brought them up. Is anybody here a fan?

The Blue Album and Pinkerton are amazing. The Green Album and Maladroit I haven't really heard much. The new album sounds pretty good from what I've heard.

I'm actually a huge fan,

I own all their albums. All their albums are somewhat different but they are all good. Pinkerton is my favorite followed closely by the blue, but the green album and maladroit are also good. The green album is more poppy than the previous but the guitar work and the catchy melodies are still very much there. Maladroit is much heavier and more rock, with a lot more guitar riffing and solo's.

The new album make believe is quite good. I have been listening to it a lot this week. In terms of sound it's a mixture of their previous albums, Hold Me sounds like it could have been on blue, Perfect situation, has a green vibe, pardon me has a pinkerton and green vibe. They finally came of with their greatest closer since Only in Dreams with Haunt You Every Day, great guitar work there and the piano parts is something pretty new for them. The lyrics are the closet thing to personal since pinkerton. "I know I can be the meanest person in the world" - pardon me and "I may not be a perfect soul but i can learn self-control" - pardon me, are a few examples.

The record though is more of ballad record, which is not bad in anyway, but i'm sure some people will be put off by this.

Not really. There is one song I like on Pinkerton and maybe two songs on their debut. Good compared to most other bands in the style but not really the style of music I listen to on a regular basis.

I love Island in the Sun (soooo fresh) and its video (soooooo cute) but that's pretty much all....

have you tried The Rentals first album btw ? it's a side project of Weezer and it's fun synth pop outfit... nothing to write home about though...

Don't really like 'em (apart from Hash Pipe). Didn't the frontman go mad or something?

No he never did, it was the bassist that Replaced Matt Sharp(the original bassist), but then he was replace by scott shriner right after.

Matt Sharp went on with his band the rentals, when he split with weezer after the first two records.

I heard somewhere that Cuomo actually painted the walls of his appartment black, disconnected his phone, and lived secluded for about two years after the commercial flop of Pinkerton. I don't know whether this is actually true, but it would certainly be interesting if it was.

Anyway, I actually just bought The Green Album today. I must say, I disagree with a lot of the negative feedback it got. I like it, especially the way it tries to be a fun, good ole' fashioned pop/rock album rather than the oft-overdramatic rock/emo plaguing the radio waves nowadays.

After the commercial flop rivers went back to Harvard university to get his degree in english literature. While he was doing that pinkerton gained in popularity and sold very well. Then in 2001 green album was out , almost six years later. I know Rivers likes to medidate abut i'm not sure he actually secluded for 2 years.

Weezer music has always been the fresh and fun type to listen too. It's never been about overbearing serious issues. If you like the green album you'll pretty much like Maladroit too although that one has a harder rock edge. Maladroit's guitar sound is the hardest they ever got in my opinion. Since their newest record has some songs sounding like green you'll most likely like that one too.
Out of the five recrods, the one that is most likely to please the most people on this board is most likely Maldroit for the reason mentioned above.

Oh and the only reason any weezer records got negative feedback from listeners is because they keep on expecting another blue or pinkerton CD. Critics usually give great reviews of their CD's except for rollingstone on pinkerton. Rollingstone review of make believe though is very good, they highly recommended it.

if you want to see some fairly accurated reviews check these out

Yeah, I've read those reviews already. I certainly agree with All Music Guide's reviews of Blue, Pinkerton, and Green. I'll have to hear Maladroit and Make Believe to comment on their reviews for those two records, though. Actually, the whole reason Pinkerton flopped in the first place was because fans were expecting Weezer to release "Buddy Holly II" and instead they got a darker, much more personal album than Blue (despite a few "funner" songs like Falling For You). Sad, really, since I think it's Weezer's best one.

Despite the fact that weezer are responsible for launching a reprehensible style of dress they remain among my favourite bands. Mainly due to the strength of the first three albums as Maladroit and Make Believe and desperately average.

And when Matt Sharp left they got in some bass player who's name i forget who lasted about six months (you can see him in the Hash Pipe video) and when he left Scott Shriner joined.

Ive got this live weezer video taped of mtv for the launch of the green album and its rather obvious he was on his way out of the band even then cause the camera igrores him completely.

The guy had some serious issues, he checked himself into a psychiatric hospital in Boston for an undisclosed illness.
