This is a pretty spot-on review IMO. Divine Intervention can best be described as Slayer's Black Album or Youthanasia. For some, it was the beginning of the end for the band. While, for others, it was (for a while) the band's last worthwhile album. Since I enjoy pretty much all of Slayer's albums to some degree, I guess I'm in neither category.

One thing I find particularly odd about this album is the way some of the songs, such as Killing Fields and 213, abruptly end with no appropriate outro or closing. I'm not sure if this was intentional or the result of the album's shoddy production (more on that later), but it's really annoying one way or another.

The production on this album is also a problem. Compared to the previous few Slayer records, the production on Divine Intervention just sounds too dirty and garbled. To be fair, it did give the album a more "evil/sinister" sound, so again, may be this was intentional. Still, it does date the album considerably. In fact, even in 1994, it was pretty shoddy.

Nonetheless, this is an excellent album. Killing Fields, Fictional Reality, Dittohead, the title track, and SS-3 are probably my favorite songs. But I also really like Serenity In Murder, Sex Murder Art, and Circle Of Beliefs.

Good review. This is one of Slayers most overlooked album. It is not as good as Seasons...., but is a worthy followup. Dittohead and Divine Intervention are among the best Slayer songs. SS3 sounds like Fictional Reality.

This is a pretty good album, but not an 88/100 album. I'd give it a 75, Slayer did much better before this. But I will admit, it was their last good album. Every album since this has been pretty bad with the exception of a few songs here and there. Good review, just an overscore.

This album is the sound of a creative well running dry.

I don't know why, but I like it. Ok, some songs suck like Killing Fields and the other slow stuff, but the fast songs are in one league with Reign in Blood. And the production is IMO much better than e.g. God Hates us all or Christ Illusion.

Decent album, good review, though I would rate it about 78 myself. Should listen to this more, ages since the last spin.

Exactly. It is a strong opener and one of the best tracks on the album. SS-3 is a rip off of Fictional Reality ( a great track) and that's why I am not too fond of it. I think Mind Control is a filler track.

I listened to this album again last night, it sucks.

I hate its guitar solo.

Mind Control is IMO a killer track. That's how Slayer should sound. Fast as a Shark! Hard as Rock!

Killing Fields begins fantastic with the rolling thunder drums and the howling guitars, but after 40 or so seconds it goes downhill and gets boring. Especially the singing is what I don't like. Just too slow for a Slayer song.
