Well, they did have a metal show on Radio 1 a while back which the likes of Anaal Nathrakh and Akercocke were on, but it all got a bit too Slipknot for me so I stopped listening. Dunno what it's like now, although Bruce Dickinson does have a radio show on 6Music.

I guess there is some decent metal played on the BBC, but what it is not doing is actually digging out something seriously trailblazing from total obscurity, as Peel did.

Having said that, I haven't listened to Radio 1 in years, so they could be doing this every day for all I know... but I doubt it.

They did try and replace Peel at first, some Welsh bloke playing experimental stuff but it was obviously never as good as the Peelster. The only radios I listen to now are Radio 4, 2 and Classic FM.

As for Gama Bomb, that's probably just Earache trying the Radiohead route to see if it gets them extra moolah.

Hahah, I actually go to the same record store as said Welsh bloke.

new Gama Bomb on November 5th.

I completely missed this, and Gama Bomb is one of my favorites of the new wave of thrash. I think I like this thread already....

EDIT: Just did some googling about this and found that the album will be available for download for free on the day of its release.

Heh, that's awesome. I wonder why they're doing that.

Well, here's what their frontman stated on metalunderground.com...

Quote:
"It doesn't matter who you are, where you live or whether you're skint or loaded right now - on November 5th you can have our album for free, no questions asked. We just hope you enjoy it."

Doubtful. I've heard people that have worked with the band as roadies and such say that the guys in GB are pretty much dicks. I doubt they'd give their album away for free without pressure from Earache.

It's probably shit, and Earache want a bit of extra publicity since they know no-one'll buy it anyways.

I'd actually buy a hard copy rather than download the album. I enjoy Gama Bomb quite a bit, and hey, someone's gotta support 'em.

Checking the site, it appears I actually reviewed their last and gave it an 80. So, hopefully it won't be shit after all.

Eh, all these modern Thrash bands blur together for me. Personally, I don't see the point of Thrash being released by bands formed post-millenia - all these groups popping out of nowhere that rip Exodus off will be gone before you know it, and they'll never beat the originals.

Bands paying homage to 80s Thrash are another fad, like Nu-Metal, Metalcore and Deathcore, sure to be replaced in a month or three by a fresh wave of bands ripping off something different.

You're probably right. Metalcore is being taken over by Deathcore, and now Deathcore bands are taking stabs at being actual Death Metal (JFaC, The Faceless, etc.), so Thrash is likely to follow.

Twenty years from now though, I can almost guarantee that there'll be another wave of Thrash bands that are influenced by this current wave of Thrash Metal.

I don't really understand why some see the reappearance of Thrash as such a bad thing. Yeah, most of these new bands can't match the originality of 80's Thrash bands, but hey, they did it first. If these kids now love 80's Thrash and want to play it, then let them do it.

It's mostly due with not being able to ignore it, for me. I get promos of the stuff and thus have to write about it when I could be writing Sonic Youth archives or whatever.

I really don't go out looking for new Thrash bands anymore, and I'd rather write reviews of bands in other genres (as Thrash is a rather tedious one). Still, I listen to Warbringer, Evile, Gama Bomb, & company on a regular basis, and really enjoy it, though I'll admit I'm not nearly as big into Thrash as I was about a year ago.

Why doesn't anyone understand that metalcore hasn't stop being trendy?

Agreed. I remember hearing Warbringers debut for the first time and being blown away. I listen to it now and... wow. What shit. Bahaha.

Only up to a point. It's not like the Metal magazines over here are still filled with 'em, as they are with teh Tarhsersh.
