Dunno, I'd be tempted to list some vintage British ones (Attlee, Bevan...). They called themselves socialists but I guess in practice and in power they were Keynesian libs.

Well, there's no shortage of minus points for the UK. Social mobility rates are almost the lowest in the developed world, second only to the home of meritocracy, the US. Inequality, crime, urban decay are all pretty ass-kickingly bad here. We have no place in international affairs whatsoever unless it is as the trusty sidekick to the USA, or, bizarrely, Libya. Until we can get your mandatory abortion for teenagers law passed, we still have the highest teenage pregnancy rates in Europe. And UN reports list the UK as THE worst place to be a child in the developed world.

What's more, there is barely a high street in the country that contains the barest flicker of independent life outside of the massive global corporations that have taken up residence there. We have a for-profit railway system that charges you £100 to get from Leeds to London, and for-profit utilities that leave old people dying of cold in the winter.

Still, we do have The Wildhearts and Napalm Death.

Qaddafi is legitimately a better person and leader than Barack Obama and Gordon Brown.

What would someone with "All authority is illegitimate and corrupting" in their signature see in Gaddafi?

who's to say that my signature represents the entire boundary of my conceptions of the world?

it's an immature sentiment in any event; whether or not that be the necessary end-point of logical conclusions about human interaction, which it is in my view, it can't exactly be the midpoint.

And if you were going to actually answer the question, you would say...?

Agreed that UK sucks in some ways, but we're still > USA in the aspects you listed. Most of them, anyways; wtf UN.

so what? Barack Obama is a better president than John McCain would have been; at least maybe a little bit, but that doesn't make him anywhere close to a good president, just like the UK may be a better country than the US but ultimately they're both shit and pretending otherwise is outdated nationalist sentiment.

now if i were to answer the question, I would point to Qaddafi's delicate balance of supporting anti-imperial causes while kowtowing just enough to the Western powers so they don't decide to forcibly 'liberate' Libya; I would point to the fact that Libya is the most developed country in all of Africa and has seen monstrous gains under his governance, I would point to the fact that amusingly enough he came to power in a US-backed coup and then shat all over the US, and I would point to the fact that he named one of his kids 'Sword of Islam,' which is seriously pretty funny.

now I would of course acknowledge that he is in no way perfect and supports some things that are grotesque, but one quality in a person does not preclude another quality; this is a fact. Stalin did good too.

That poor kid is going to be beaten up so much at school, and you think it's funny? Disgraceful.

I like him because he's the only world leader with at least 4 ways to spell his name.

Qaddafi
Kadafi
Gadhafi

Far-right politicians (from the Lega, our equivalent of the BNP) are proposing that we go to war with Libia.

Great idea, guys.

You'd back us though, wouldn't you?

Look up the two armies on wikipedia, or something. They'd have an advantage with coastal defenses, but our forces and tactics are far superior. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't be surprised if a Swiss hit squad attempted something soon.

Sorry, but unless Tom G Warrior is leading the battle charge in a chariot drawn by members of Samael, there's really very little to care about in such an instance.

Well, sure, who gives a fuck about Switzerland? It's just funny that such a small country would even consider going to war. Our army wasn't designed for invasions (although we would probably kick Libia's ass).
