I'm having a fair bit of trouble with this one. It's got some shining moments but it just won't reveal itself to me like I want it to. I guess I was growing more used to the electro Samael... although I do feel this one is miles ahead of Solar Soul and even more so of Reign of Light. But better than Eternal and Passage? Eesh... we'll see after more spins but for now, it's just a good album... no more, no less.

The drums really do hold it back. I wish they'd have gone for a more acoustic sound rather than continue down the industrial path. Agreed re being better than RoL and SS.

Could have been awesome. There be no dynamics, though. Well, not much, anyway. This album shows a band trying too hard find their roots.

Still not bad, though.

Not much of interest going on under the blastbeats.

The electro stuff was more interesting, like Dimmu Borgir mixed with KMFDM and Rammstein.

I agree with the review, there are some spectacular moments of music underneath the incessant blasting. There are those unique Samael melodies hidden in there, dark, solemn and yet catchy as hell. It's also true that things sometime fall into monotony (probably mainly due to the same blastbeat abuse), but overall I think it's a strong effort, their best in ages. And I like this return to a more agressive direction, I was never a big fan of their poppish sound on ROL and SS. It's an enjoyable album and I'm hoping the next one will be even better.
