I have this! Never listened, looks like I'll have to change that.

It's actually the only Symphony X I own. I never could get into their music and this is no exception. It sounds good but doesn't do anything to me.

I enjoy this album, particularly Of Sins and Shadows and The Divine Wings of Tragedy, a near perfect 25 minute epic of a song. But (and I know this may be blasphemy), but I prefer later Symphony X to this- Twilight in Olympus, The Odyssey, and Paradise Lost are the band's classics for me. Still a good album and worth a listen from all power/prog metal fans.

One of the best SX albums if not the best. Imo this is better than The Odyssey, but many people prefer the latter for it's heavier sound, same with Paradise Lost. What makes this the best SX album is the quality songs and the best performance by Russell Allen. Seriously, there is not a single song on this album that is not killer and Michael Romeo is at the top of his game. I felt he recycled some riffs on Paradise Lost, mostly from The Odyssey, and Russell Allen's more aggressive approach to the vocals limited his range. I still like both new and old SX but the true classic is this.

Superb album, better than The Odyssey and Paradise Lost imho. It's one of the few albums that I enjoy from start to finish, all songs are great and it never gets old, I still spin this regularly.

Great review :dio:

This is one of my all time favorites by Symphony X. Glad so many people agree.

This a great album indeed, and I agree that the Pharaoh, and the eyes of medussa are a little bit of a filler, but not meaning they are bad songs.
Personally my favorite Symphony X album is V, which in my case was the first album I listened from them.

I think this is my favorite of theirs. Paradise Lost is a close second. Never really understood the hype about The Odyssey really.

Thanks Alexander!

I'm glad to see others agree with me on this, as among my group of friends, Divine Wings vs Odyssey has been debated many a time. Although I love the Odyssey album, my second favorite after this is probably V. If I had written that review, it would have been waayy different than it is now.

The V review is unfortunate, indeed... :lame:

okay, so I haven't posted in a while (like 6 months), but I feel the need to say that THIS IS MY SECOND FAVORITE PROG METAL ALBUM OF ALL TIME AND SHOULD BE A CLASSIC

Dude, this one has actually a heavier sound than The Odissey.
