True that.
But I'm sure what I'm saying is true nonetheless.

As long as whatever it is is not sung in french, I could stomach it.

I listen to quite a bit of French music... And, well, stomach maybe, appreciate, I sincerely doubt it.

You are playing in a retro-metal band yourself, are you not?
No offense intended, just wanted to put things into perspective.

Honestly, I didn't want to bash H_T or anything but someone saying anything retro is crap while playing in a retro-metal band sounded weird to me... I'd really like to read what he has to say about it 'cause I'm a little confused right now.

I thought it ironic, as well, ergo, the
I've heard the Harbinger material, and it's not bad for what it is, but it is as "retro" as it gets.

I have never held myself out to be in a retro band, and it has never been our intention to be one. But if that's how you feel then I suppose your entitled to your opinion. If we indeed are retro, then our degree of retritude is to a much lesser degree than the bands on that list. So perhaps the irony is not as great as you think. Plus "retro" has such a pop/fashion sound to it that I find it wholly unnatural applied to Harbinger. We do love old metal more than new metal, and if our songs happen to sound like that, its because that's how metal we make sounds. There is no attempt to relive the glory days of the 80's or even to have the same fashion sense. Retro has overtones of being intentionally fake.

That's pretty much all I've got. Have at it.

C'mon man, be serious for a while... You listen mostly to retro metal, you play retro-speed metal yet criticize bands that have the same kind of attitude. That is just silly.
You can deny it all you want, about everybody here heard Harbinger and most of us thought it was actually pretty good but, one thing's for sure, we all heard it was a retro act whatever you say it is.

You missed the edit but I'll continue anyway. You're totally wrong about the attitude part. Having never met us or seen us perform live you are totally unqualified to make an assertion like that.

If you're calling us a retro band because our music sounds old, then you totally misunderstood what I meant by "retro."

And why do you thing those bands are different than Harbinger? Now you're not only being silly, you're being unfair too.

So Harbinger is true but all the others are opportunistic assholes who "felt" there was interest to the old metal sound and jumped the gun??? I think most of these lads genuinely enjoy what they're doing and are not forcing the retro sound in any way... Just like Harbinger does it naturally.

You continue to misunderstand. What I meant by "retro" is where a bands whole image/idealogy/music...everything about them is a parody of the 80's. Bullet belts, tight jeans, shiny white high-tops, and a very precise and exact duplicate of a particular style. These bands also hold themselves out to be just that. The whole "wave" of similar bands that has come pouring out is evidence that such a thing exists. Thrash metal became popular again, particularly bay area thrash, so people (bands) want to emulate that style and look exactly. That is retro. A band isnt retro if they sound like a bunch of old influences thrown together. Its hardly as pointed as the examples I just gave. That is why we are not a retro band. So if by "coming naturally," you mean that Harbinger doesnt try to fit its sound into a small little square of emulation, then yes, it does.

And I understand that not all bands do it. But the culprits are extremely visible. That is all I meant by "retro."
