If Doom can be Christian, I don't see why Black Metal can't be. Obviously it wouldn't be TRUE BM of a Satanic variety.

Come on, man... Doom and Black Metal are not the same.

As soon as the lyrics start praising the virtues of Jesus, it ceases to be Black Metal, surely you understand why this is.

Yeah, but they can have similarities... Funeral Doom is straddling the line.

Not so sure I agree with that... Funeral Doom is veeerrrryyyy slooowww and plodding, while Black metal tends to be at least mid tempo, and chord arrangments / compositions are all different, to boot.

haha, Those countries in which those religions are the predominate ones probabaly don't even allow Metal, let alone Black Metal.

Yet it exists.

For example.

It's not because it's from Saudi Arabia that it's muslim...

I have no problems imagine muslim, jewish or hinduist BM, as there's pagan/heathen DM.

I've got more problems with buddhist ones, for the buddhist concept.

And christian, if it's about killing all heathens and torture them in infernal chambers, is ok for me. But preaching and BM are incompatible.

There is metal from Israel, India, Thailand, Vietname, China and many arab countries...

hmmm. This must be a fairly recent thing, than... I knew about Israel and China, though. Still, the scene is probably a pretty fledgeling one.

Well, the more ambient BM projects, then?

Stefan, I know.

It could be about how all forms of life are sacred and how we live in the age of pain. Those are buddhists concepts than could very well be crafted into BM lyrics imo.

Perhaps... Not really sure, but I'm not buddhist.

Whatsmore, misanthropy bears no specific religion.

Well, I don't really care too much for that term, but it at least carries the monker of Black Metal and doesn't praise Jesus.

Christianity is all about love, how can it be misanthropic?
A contradiction...

Dark ages chistianity, the inquisition years, wasn't about love. A christian BM band has to be based in these concepts, pain and torture for all sinners.

Humans manipulating the bible for their owns mean to power and what true Christianity is supposed to be about are two entirely different things, though.

And the pain and torture for all sinners concept is more rooted in Old Testament values anyway.

We could argue about this for weeks.

The bible is full of contradictions, isn't it?

All these arguments (and they are lovely arguments, BTW) seemingly in support of the idea of Christian Black Metal notwithsatnding, the very concept makes about as much sense to me as Jewish NSBM.

Yes, it is. That's the reason, in certains circunstances, a Christian BM band that speaks about bringing the sword, eye for and eye and holy crusades is possible.

But we can also agree than BM and lyrics about Jesus loves you all are incompatible.

Well, Salem are quite pro-Jew/anti-Islam, but they're more of a Doom band. There was a Jewish supremacist black metal Israeli one-man group, but I can't remember the name...
