You know, I'm beginning to think Anthrax has dug themselves into such a deep hole that it will be impossible for them to ever get out of it. I'm almost sorry I was so defensive of the band a few years ago. First they try to regain credibility in the metal scene by coming up with that ridiculous "pentagram with an A in the middle" logo (yeah Anthrax, you're such an
EVIL SATANIC band, which is why you wrote songs like H8 Red and One World

). Then Charlie Benante posts all those bitch fits on Blabbermouth.net about how metal is dead, Americans are stupid, and some big shot celebrity cut in line when he was getting coffee at Starbucks (I'm not making that up, by the way) just because We've Come For You All sold poorly. Then the band completely sabotages their relationship with John Bush by doing that "reunion tour" with Joey Belladonna (you can't honestly tell me that was anything more than a marketing stunt). And now they fire Dan Nelson for no real reason other than (I presume) their pie-in-the-sky dream of having their classic line-up reunite and soon become the next Metallica.
I loved We've Come For You All when I first bought it almost six years ago, but it really hasn't aged very well IMO. Tons of better albums have been released ever since, and when all is said and done, I really think I overpraised it even then. I listened to it just a few weeks ago and was amazed by how dated it already sounds (even though it only came out in 2003!).
I hope Anthrax proves me wrong. But my hopes of them ever releasing an album on par with Persistence Of Time or Sound Of White Noise are now almost infinitely small.
