Well lets be fair here, Painkiller revolutionized nothing. It was merely an attempt by Judas Priest to match current output by bands like Running Wild, Helloween, and Gamma Ray.

The 80's albums didnt even have the same impact on music that the 70's material did. Technically they were just rehashing all their ideas from the 70;s. The 70's era did not put out a single bad album, some would say Rocka Rolla, but they are wrong. The 80's saw such wonderful albums as Point of Entry, Turbo, and Ram it Down.....so, 70's is better. There I win.

I think 70's Priest is better because it has more substance. It has more soul. It is original. It is awesome. Whether it's upbeat and fast or slow and kinda dark, it's all awesome. Not all of Priest's songs from the 70's are awesome. But from Rocka Rolla to Killing Machine, they are all classics. Can't say the same for the 80's stuff. And the 90's stuff is too limitited.

Again this is all IMO.

The riff after 3:15 makes me think of Whole Lotta Love.

Or an early form of thrash metal?

Meh, I always think people are talking shit when they go "omg! Early thrash!" just because a riff has extended palm muted bits. Obviously it is to an extent true, but it still sin't thrash. Symptom of the Universe for example, definantly an early thrash riff (the first in fact, or so I believe) but it isn't early thrash.

I like 70's and 80's Priest equally. In fact, I love anything Priest. Even teh Ripper years. Demolition is one of my favorite Priest albums.

I'm not saying it is thrash. Just an early thrash riff.

Exactly. And riffs like this form the basis for the thrash genre, along with stuff like Dissident Aggressor and Tyrant.
