He's the troll of the frost fields
Stupid, old, gross, slow
But we have the right to cut his head
And ban it from the hero's hall?

I swear no. It's funny to have the old troll
Aged and slow as the inmortal trees
Wandering in our halls
And trolling all his way.

Goats are not trolls, no
We dwell not under bridges
Trollls sit in their filth

Goats are so pure so
Noble; we cross the bridge and
Hunt for some good grass

You're not troll, my friend,
You're the new forum's Eyesore
Taking the place of the old one.

Now, with your Eyesore crown
You can tame the nu-metal claims
From Satan's anus.

I love the reverse elitism in this thread.

I don't really hate all Korn. I liked Follow the Leader as well (minus the atrocious song with Fred Durst). Its On! and Justin are still cool songs if you ask me, but this album just sucks. For starters, the production robs the guitars of having any real punch like they did on later albums. The songwriting feels simplistic to a fault. I'm sure even the band, in a private moment, would admit this is their weakest material. Again, for the reverse elitists, I don't see where anyone has denied the influence this album had, but that doesn't mean its automatically good.

I like Goat's review because he's obviously approached it with an open mind and tried to find something he likes in it. If he finds it lacking, then that says something about the album, I guess. I feel the same way as him, really.

I think a lot of metalheads do just write this kind of thing off without giving it the same chances, so in that sense I can sorta see where the reverse elitists are coming from. I mean, Soul Society, when you went on your Korn marathon, are you 100% sure you hadn't written it off before you started?

What I heard until I gave the albums a listen (Freak on a Leash) didn't exactly impress me so, yeah I didn't expect much from the album, although if I find something good in what I expect to be shit, I have no problem admitting it, for example, I like Psychosocial from Slipknot's new album, even though I loathe the rest of their discography.

Just finished reading all the posts after another 4 pages, and I must say it's turning into a real classic

And fuck it people, Dave Suzuki wishes he could be 1/4 as technical as Korn.

back to topic...

Korn's first album is "ok" for what it is. I prefer Issues and Take a look in the mirror, for instance.

But listening to the selft-titled reminds me of Sepultura's Roots...When Roots came out, Max was telling every magazines that he was influenced by Jonathan Davis and Korn's sound.

What a shame

Anyway, Korn's first album doesn't suck as a whole. There are some cool songs. Bring me back to highschool and I now realize I'm getting old and it sucks.

And as for the review : sounds a lot like a rant but a fair rant
