I'll cede. With a highly critical listen, I'll admit their song writing is piss poor. I think I'm praising innovation for it's own sake. The cool moments are amazing, though, and if they could actually organize the shit, I'd easily give it a 90. But alas they jumbled it all together and its just a 58 or whatever. Still better than any other deathcore band, I refuse to give in on that point.

I'll agree that in an album or two's time they might be great, I do like Avant-Garde stuff when it's done well, but all too often it's random and badly thought-out. Better than other Deathcore? Naah. We'll agree to disagree on that...

Ha! My feeling is that these guys really don't care if the 'real' metal elitists like them or not :)

Interesting album BTW (from their myspace samples), liked the electronic and slower bits; some (and I really do mean a minority) of it was a bit too chaotic for my tastes. At the very least they display a very healthy creativity.

Neither deathcore or metalcore will ever define anything. Both are just candles in the wind, that'll eventually be blown out, and never be remembered by anyone in particular. Deathcore is a devolution from metalcore, and even though they're metalized doesn't mean it's metal. Oh yeah, and I'm an elitist prick I guess.

metalcore has been around since the mid 90s or even earlier, and is still going going along just fine. Candle in the wind indeed.

Saying that no one will be listening to Deathcore in 10 years is a ridiculous and baseless assumption.

Hey, some people still listen to Nu Metal and the bloody Bee Gees. I meant it won't be anywhere near as popular, though.

This. I went and listened to Smells Like Kevin Bacon to see what it was like, and the various cool little parts don't mean anything. If there's no ulterior meaning to anything other than to exist for the sake of itself, then it's bullshit.

Haha...it's funny because that last sentence was total bullshit. You think Slayer was thinking of ulterior meaning when they made Reign in Blood? Or, for that matter, pretty much any classic heavy or thrash metal record...music doesn't have to have hidden meaning or whatever to be great.

That being said, I haven't listened to iwrestledabearonce. I think I should, though, because they sound like a fun band that can play, even if they're nothing to write home about.

I meant for the riffs themselves, not the entire song or album. Of course that has no ulterior meaning than itself. But just random riffs thrown together with no discernible bearing makes for bad songs (and albums).

Well, I'm listening right now the album they recorded as British Ghouls, Satanic Royalty, in 1964. Great stuff.
