Maybe the best album Black Sabbath has ever made. It simply hasn't any flaws. Dio's voice is perfect, the riffs and solos are stunning and all songs are catchy as hell! Listen to the slow and melancholic "Lonely is the Word" and you'll know what I mean. Almost perfect: I'd rate it 9/10.

I'd like to know what/who your avatar is. If you don't respond can someone else possibly answer for me? That'd be great.

Its the album cover for Overkill's The Years of Decay.

And yes, this kicks anything Sabbath had done up to this point's ass (well, Sabatoge was pretty good too). This is where they really got their shit together and finally got rid of the plague known as Ozzy and came in with the God known as Dio.

C'est assez jusq'auboutiste comme opinion, mais t'es quand meme un mec sympa;ceci dit, never forget:Black Sabbath with Ozzy Osbbourne is the fuckin' best!! Clap your fuckin' hands!! I can't fuckin' hear you!!!!!!!!

Disagreed. Ozzy has always been a weak vocalist, and the songwriting isn't that great on the majority of the first couple of albums, till Sabotage. Then after that, they were shitty till Dio came, and their quality really picked up after that.

gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna gna... yeah, I know, it's not very constructive but so is your point...

anyways, the fact remains Ozzy is Black Sabbath's Legendary singer, that the first Black Sabbath albums gave birth to Heavy Metal and that Black Sabbath with Ozzy will play stadiums while Dio is in stuck in the medium-sized venues... he's a great singer but, if you ask me, his try achievement was with Rainbow, not with Black Sabbath... :P

Basically, Ozzy Osborne is completely boring. He doesn't have a good singing voice ala Hansi Kursch, or a great high pitched voice like Halford. He doesn't have a cool evil voice like Doug Lee. He's just there, and has put me to sleep his whole career. And even if someone did like him, which I might be able to understand, there is no justification I can see as to him being the "ultimate" heavy metal singer. And are you really basing quality and talent based on the fact that one person played in stadiums and the other in medium sized venues? Guess Britney Spears is a great artist, then.

As for the songwriting: Early Sabbath does have some nice songwriting (War Pigs, Into the Void, Children of the Grave) some other songs), and they did invent heavy metal, but I find the majority of it to be boring. Take Black Sabbath, one of their most overrated songs. You have that slow doomy riff, and its nice. But then they repeat it. Again. And again. And then Ozzy's bad vocals come in. And then again. And again. It picks up a bit in the middle, but the majority of it is just a completely boring song. You can take another one, like Paranoid, which has no agression or emotion or anything really... Just a simple opening riff that isn't too good followed by a simple power chord progression. Repeat. Add Ozzy vocals. Mix to create average song. Then there's the just really bad, like Rat Salad. There are just a lot of average songs, with a few great ones interdispersed, and some really bad ones in there too.

And that, children, is why I think the Ozzy era of Black Sabbath is completely overrated and average.

on Yngwie's discography, you already have the best one ! though, you can try Trilogy (with JSS) and Odyssey (with JLT... I think I mistaked the album titles earlier  ) which are fine albums before he got fat & bored & lived in Florida... (the largest retirement camp in the universe... how can this be rock'n'roll ? :P )

Actually, Mark Boals (Ring Of Fire) sang on the Trilogy album not JSS.......

Ozzy has an interesting and unique style, but he is nowhere near as good as Dio. Dio=God.

Stub, get the other 2 Rainbow albums that feature Dio on vocals.

Actually when Ozzy sings that part my skin crawls;it's so fuckin' scary;more scary than anything Dio ever did;that's why it's so cool!

Black Sabbath = Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Terry "Geezer" Butler and Bill Ward. Thats all. Dio may be a more accomplished singer, but it wasn't Sabbath without Ozzy. .I (praxtically) followed Sabbaths entire career from the start (nearly anyways, my freinds and I started digging Sabbath around 1972), and trust me, thats the way it is... whether you like Dio more or not doesn't change that simple fact.
And whoever mentioned agression, remember the time frame: for 1970, that was agressive; you have to put it in it's proper historical context. And besides, Sabbath aren't necessarily about agression, anyways.
That being said, Heaven and Hell is a decent album, but certainly nothing special. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is a classic, as are Master of Reality and Vol.4
V.

Black Sabbath with Ozzy was never heavy metal, not even close. they were more like dark horror score rock or something. but, Black Sabbath with dio was indeed heavy metal, another band completly. I think its wrong to even compare them.

another thing. Early Black Sabbath is to heavy metal what venom or king diamond are to black metal, more of a style thing. musically heavy metal has more things in common with Led Zepeling.

Black Sabbath was voted number one best metal band on yahoo. I'm not sure they deserved the number one spot.

OK, who would you have given the honor to? They're not my favorite metal band, but they basically started the style, so I guess I don't see where you have a problem.
