9 MANOWAR
“Sting of the Bumblebee”
Kings of Metal (
1988) BASSIST: Joey DeMaio

This manic, mindless masturbatory wankfest (played on bass, which technically is a guitar) becomes more unbearable when you consider that DeMaio most likely performed it clad only in a loincloth, his hairy chest abundantly oiled and puffed out with pride. Sometimes it sounds like his woolly mammoth popped out to help him slap the strings. This metal is as heavy as the foil used to wrap a stick of Wrigley’s gum.

40 LIMP BIZKIT
“Faith”
Three Dollar Bill Y’all$ (1997)
GUITARIST:Wes Borland

This George Michael cover may have put Limp Bizkit on the map, but it was also the most embarrassing moment of their career—and that’s saying a lot. Bizkit’s version became a hit just in time to pay all of Michael’s legal fees after he was arrested in a Beverly Hills men’s room for lewd behavior. Wes Borland’s limpwristed riff suggests Michael wasn’t the only one who should have been jailed for wanking in public.

Brilliant.

GUITARISTS: Dave Mustaine and Marty Friedman

There was no actual "guitar solo" in this song. Just a lead-guitar driven outro. I would've personally replaced this with something like Breadline or Insomnia.

20 METALLICA
“2x4”
Load (1996)
GUITARIST: Kirk Hammett

I actually kind of like the solo in this song. Has a very summery/bluesy sound to it.

66 BILLY JOEL
“It’s Still Rock & Roll to Me”
Glass Houses (1980)
GUITARISTS: Dave Brown, Russell Javor

There's no guitar solo in this song. Just a sax solo and reggae-style guitar riff here and there. Plus, it's one of my favorite Billy Joel songs. And I really have no idea why it's recently become so fashionable to hate on it (constant radio saturation, may be?).

With all due respect, this list should've been called "100 Worst Guitar Songs" because it was really railing more on the actual songs than on their guitar solos. Some of the entries (such as the last one I mentioned) didn't even HAVE guitar solos.

I think they were right for about 85% of it. However, those 6 guys have too much time on their hands.

Wow, it was a sneaking suspicion before I actually took the step of clicking on this thread, but this just confirms it: I really don't care.

I haven't heard any of these songs.

One solo that's always bugged me is "I, Voyager" by Nevermore. It's so "fuck gotta throw a fast guitar exercise in after the second chorus to get our metal shredzzz cred woo!!"

Manowar is so great than everybody has a worst DiMaio masturbation bass solo as a favorite :D
Mine is Thunderpick or the stupids solos (all) of Achilles, Agony and Ecstasy in 5 horrible parts and 3 good ones.

MetalStorm reminds me of this guy I knew who watched Monty Python's Holy Grail 100s of times, pissing himself laughing every single time. He then also quoted most of the script every chance he could, laughing hysterically as he did so. The only difference is he eventually got over it.
