All right, you kids have convinced me. I'll check out this Protest the Hero album.

But really guys, Opeth? 1st? As a cure for insomnia, yes, I could maybe see it, but otherwise...

Check it... It deserves the praise.

About Opeth, Noodles has resumed the situation..

I'm surprised the few votes for Cynic casted ... 15 years after, they return with a hell of an album, as time didn't have passed.

I agree with ganesha, Watershed does deserve the praise, definitely one of the best albums of last year. It's also great how Cynic is number 1 for prog, and how Sagas and Holographic Universe came pretty high in a lot of the lists.

That being said, it is fitting that Metallica nabbed number 1 in surprises, I mean who thought that they could still make such an album after St. Anger, or indeed anything after the black album?

Finally, I can't believe Turning Season Within came in above Night Eternal. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Draconian fan, but TSW had only two great songs (Seasons Apart and Morphine Cloud) while the rest I thought were pretty generic unlike the stuff on The Burning Halo and especially Arcane Rain Fell.

And now this has reminded me that I really need to check out Ayreon, there's a lot of love for them on this site.

Almost the same wit the winners of the BM chart...

If we worked out the charts the way we work out Olympic medal tables (i.e. most gold medals wins regardless of how many silvers etc.) then Nachtmystium would have beaten Enslaved, who continued to disappear further into their own arses.

I Can't Believe Crucible Of Man Was More Disappointing Than Nostradamus....I Still Have Yet to Find More Than 2 or 3 Good Songs On Nostradamus...Crucible had quite a few...I Don't Know How Avantasia or GNR didnt win though...GNR was horrific and avantasia was a HUGE letdown after Metal Opera 1 And 2

Chill out, Iced fanboy :P

I'm Not Saying That Crucible wasn't disappointing...I wanted something much more aggresive for Barlows return...It's just that I really wanted Avantasia to be great....But alas...didnt happen...just didnt click i guess lol....

my favourite thing about Protest the Hero is that they write songs that you can sing along to, while at the same time rarely repeating ideas. each song of theirs has 3-4 parts that i would want to be the chorus because of how kickass it is. also hella emotions and stuff.

i've heard everything from awful to awesome about their live shows, so it wouldn't surprise me if they sucked when Brahm saw them.

Can someone explain to me how Opeth got best album of the year ? The numbers don't add up in the grid .....

PTH has 3,1, 3 for 1st to 3rd place and Opeth 2,1,2 for 3rd to 5th place and their better overall ? Is their a mistake in the tallies ?

A lot of votes in the 6-15 range.

thats a really crappy way to win if you ask me.
It just means that people dropped Opeth's name because it's a good album, not necessarly the best...

Plus Opeth is a lot more known than Protest The Hero.
There should be rules from keeping this from happening again,
how bad does it look when you get the best album of the year award and no one voted for it for in their top 3 ....

Watershed was boring, with 3 really good tunes and the rest varying between boring and OK: Nothing in particular, and Ghost Reveries was much much better.

That has to be the worst "Overall" I've seen on here in a long, long time...

Iced Earth gets most disappointing, yet is second on the "true/power" section....how does that work?

I'm confused about how my pet album (Seventh Wonder's Mercy Falls) got 9th overall but only 7th in the prog category.

Oh and the lack of people voting for Seventh Avenue also offended me deeply. Check them out. Please.

I think it's bizarre how Scar Symmetry was so high everywhere. I enjoy melo-death, and I just couldn't get into that CD. Personally I think an album such Slania by Eluveitie should have been much higher, that album was pretty awesome.

.:crast:.

Yeah it's pretty standard for high profile bands to get lots of both love and hate.

Anyway, IMO way too much goth or power metal on the overall and not enough death, thrash or black. Presumably that is what your problem is too, Trooper of Steel?

Enslaved deserved to win, hands down. Especially over Nachtmystium.
