I thought Black Sabbath didn't release anything till the 70's

And seriously, I have no idea whats appealing about Led Zeppelin. I'm trying to listen to Led Zeppelin IV or whatever people call it and all im hearing is frankly annoying vocals and riifs that have that annoying blues feel.... like it when it feels like the riff is going in a circle, like jsut going nowhere.

Well, that's understandable. Led Zeppelin IV is more rooted in folk music than Rock music, and I'm not really big on that album either. The first 3 albums are revelations in Rock music, and are great from start to finish. I do feel Zeppelin did release some bad music though, particularly their later period stuff. Way too much John Paul Jones noodling around on a synthesizer, and not in a good way like Jon Lord, and not enough Jimmy Page. Presence and Coda are egresously bad.

The thing about Zeppelin is, no two albums sound the same; in fact no two Zep songs sound the same. They are nothing if not eclectic.
Zeppelin's best period for me is the years spanning '71-'77, or III - Presence.
Jimmy Page is one of the greatest songwriters ever (in rock), not to mention his fretmanship. To state otherwise is not only wrong, but also indicates some form of brain disorder; perhaps, for example: the brain sizzling tertiary stage of syphyllis, or not following the instructions provided by the warning labels on the back of paint solvent cannisters one too many times. Fetal alcohol syndrome also comes to mind.

:D

Doctor, how long have I got? :omfg:

Another opinion: Eleanor Rigby is the greatest pop song of all time. Yes/no?

Jebus Christ it just gets worse...

You appear to have some sort of severe brain disorder

EDIT: I see CotB got in there before me, haha.

i went into Led Zeppelin expecting good blues rock guitar playing with epic vocals but instead i got boring blues guitar playing snoozly vocals. classic bands always disappoint me because i'd assume from their hype that Jimmy Page could dance circles around Rory Gallagher or the guys from Wishbone Ash but turns out it's the other way around. i had high hopes too because Rory and the guys from WA have pretty meh voices and Plant is considered so great, so like Rory + epic vocals would be major win, but that's not how things turned out.

They would've been better with a different singer. Robert Plant sounds like he's climaxing on every damn song, and it's really annoying.

I can't explain it properly :lame: I just know that listening to Led Zeppelin is not enjoyable in the least for me.

Shit, man, there's something in this world for everybody. If you don't dig Zeppelin, thats your trip.
But there should at least be acknowledgment of their indisputable songwriting abilities and impact on the world of rock, and consequently, metal.

"We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.

The hammer of the gods
Will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying:
Valhalla, I am coming!
On we sweep with threshing oar,
Our only goal will be the western shore"...

Fucking-A man, in 1971, this was like a meteor headed for the earth.

Seriously, the fuckin doors? I was under the impression that they were as overrated and over hyped as Nirvana. A band a shitload of people love but virtually no one actually listens to. People that aren't really music aficianados laugh at how bad the doors were.

The Doors have some amazingly great songs with a lot of emotion and blues (Love Her Madly, Break On Through) but as a whole they are probably overrated by pot smokers.

Jim Morrison wasn't a pothead. He was a hard drinker.
Overrated my white Irish ass, The Doors are cool.
Their music always reminded me of a dark carnival.

I like The Doors, though I'll admit they sound better when I'm smashed.

Never said that he was but I remember so many pot smokers in high school fawning over Jim Morrision's dick.

As for the overrated, they have some great songs but is their really that much to them besides a few classics hits?

Sorry, I misread your post; didn't notice the word "by" after overrated, which of course changes the context entirely.

Well, some of their non-classic hits arebetter than others, but as a whole I always liked their general sound and style.

Okay, I know I'll be getting TONS of flame mail, death threats, etc. for this, but I had to vote "nay." Don't get me wrong: I have nothing but respect for The Beatles and how much they contributed to modern rock music. But I've always hated the singing, and overall, they just never really clicked with me for some reason.

I've always really liked Hey Jude, though.

Yea, me too. And I've heard most of their stuff, a couple of songs stand out, but really, not that amazing.

Hey Jude is a Nazi anthem.
