Indeed. That Terrorizer article's interesting, he comes out there too. Very dignified.

Does any of this really matter? Gaahl is an asshole and apparently a publicity hound. Who gives a shit. This reeks like the whole Timo Toki thing a couple of years ago. Apparently the music isnt interesting enough to generate any coverage, so people have to focus on his sexuality and the paradox it creates within a genre of metal that is almost on the whole devoted towards hatred.

Again, who gives a shit, its just music and the antics of the sick fucks who play it. Listen to Iron Maiden and exalt in a simpler age of metal.

And this I can whole-heartedly agree with you on. Especially the Iron Maiden comment.

Haha, yeah, Gaahl's a tool. I dig a bit of Black metal, but as for the "simpler age of metal" (the late 70's - late 80's) I have to agree. Nothing to this day can come close to what it once was.

Well Malcolm Dome made an interesting comment that I have to agree with. This by far is the age where the most amount of metal is available. You have all the new bands and what they're doing, then you have a lot of the old bands like Sabbath(heavn and hell) priest, and Maiden all out touring and still generally kicking ass live. So there's a much wider spectrum of metal available. But, this comes with one caveat, metal has gone through a period of stagnation and commercialization. The coming years will never be as exciting or meaningful as the 70's or 80's. The quality is gone, as well as the inspiration. It was a simpler time in metal before everything became about looks and money. Today its even worse because you have bands hopping on the fashion wagon trying to look like crusty old thrashers of yesteryear. So its worse now because all the grimy underground music is slowly being commercialized. So when I say a simpler age of metal, I literally mean simpler. The music was straight to teh point in your face fuckin heavy metal. Now its much more complicated, not that it wasnt complicated back then, it just wasnt to the degree it is now.

Let's face it, black metal's pretty gay anyway (aside maybe from Faust killing a gay guy). It's theatrical, involved lots of makeup, not to mention leather, and I have it on good authority that Euronymous was murdered not before Varg had a few too many appletinis. And apparently giving it was considered manly to the Vikings (though not taking it... source: http://www.fordham.edu/halsall/pwh/gayvik.html)

Not that there's anything wrong with it, of course.

Never got what the big deal about Gorgoroth was, and I've always thought Gaahl's vocals sound like an annoying whiny kid. Props to him for coming out, in my opinion it's easily his greatest accomplishment. Douche.

Very wise words here, IMO. Commercialism gets everything in the end.

I was thinking of Hunter Thompson's comments on movements and styles about how the first wave is genuine while later waves are focused on frivolous aspects instead of the most important feature, usually the apsect which makes a movement so original.
