As a semi-expert in thrash, Municipal Waste does not belong on this list. They don't even belong on a top 100 metal bands list. They don't belong on any list extolling the virtues of good metal. They are boring, dare I say poppy, cross over skater-boy thrash. Bah!

Well, yeah, they are pretty much crossover. They wear the DRI influence on their sleeves.

As for boring and poppy, you're on crack. Their just damned fun, which I know is a no-no in the over-serious world of Metal.

A lot of negetivity....just as I expected.

How about making our own top 50 lists? (or top 20, for those more casual thrash fans....)

I'll give it a try but not right now coz I'm at work...don't have time.

Anybody care to give it a try in the meantime?

I love how angry we all get when these lists come out. Why do we keep expecting something different each time, like hookers hoping that the next cock won't smack them in the face but will properly enter their mouths?

Over-serious? You must have completely forgot about power metal. Or bands like Korpiklaani and Tankard.

If you like Municipal Waste, then that's fine. I'm not telling you that you shouldnt. I just think they are skater boy garbage and do not belong on the list at all. I don't like new wave thrash bands (Municipal Waste is one of them) I dont like Toxic Holocaust either. I think they're both generic and "dumb". That's about as sophisticated as I'm going to get with this unimportant argument.

You're going to like my reviews this week, haha. Been wondering about an editorial on the 'Nu-Thrash' question...

Dear metalreviews

I am interested in opinions on new retro thrash bands

versus

New albums by old thrash bands

Which are better and why?

I would start a poll thread but I guess it seems likely who will win...

Is this an official request? My views on it will be pretty clear come Monday, but it'd make a good topic for my first editorial...

No, I just meant "members of the metalreviews forum".

But yeah, if you get the chance to do an editorial it would be an interesting subject.

I like the classic thrash albums more but I don't think there is anything wrong with the retro stuff. A lot of it is really good. Dekapitator and Evile just can't compare to Dark Angel, Megadeth or Metallica. Know what I mean?

Certainly, "Enter the Grave" is not as good as KIMB...ABIG, but is it better than United Abominations? I would say probably yes. I'd say it's probably better than the last Destruction album as well...

What I mean is comparing new retro bands to new albums by old bands, rather than old albums by old bands.

Oh man if I could fucking read. Yeah retro thrash albums are usually better than the likes of UA, new Exodus or Death Magnetic but there are still exceptions like the new Kreator or Testament's Formation. Still the retro thrash bands do old school thrash better simply cause the old bands have slowed down, mellowed on the vocals or simply can't write a good song.

Evile is not better than new Destruction. How dare you even think that.

Somehow I manage to.

The opener to D.E.V.O.L.U.T.I.O.N. is great, but then it goes downhill and there is so much mid tempo chugging it gets really dull.

I also think that the Evile is better. And the Warbringer too. Devolution has good songs, but, as said before, too many midtempo stuff, that's not going anywhere.

EDIT: And Slayer of No1 is not a bad choice, whereas there are many albums, that are on that level, but not so direct on the point like RIB. No compromises, just 35 Minutes of pure rage, speed and hate. Even Dark Angel had more slower parts on Darkness Descents. Sodom's Persecution Mania and Kreator's Pleasure to Kill are not so good produced and Metallica's albums aren't aggressive enough.

As a Metal album I would even put MOP or RTL over RIB but as a Thrash Metal album, there are few who have the same power but who are still catchy. You can hear RiB in one step and it's never getting boring or you want to skip a song.
