I tend to be off-and-on about whether or not I should buy this album. I really like I Defy and From This Day (yes, the infamous rap metal song that, according to a friend of mine, was once played at a local strip club). And Message In A Bottle is pretty decent cover song. But what I heard of the rest of the album sounds pretty meh. Interestingly, even though it's considered MH's "sell out", the person who reviewed Supercharger here on Metalreviews seemed to prefer The Burning Red over The More Things Change.

So, overall, is it worth picking up?

Erk, as one of the few people here who likes some songs on Supercharger, I've had a hard time with TBR. Somewhere between nu-metal and groove, really, and there's quite a bit of rapping on it - Desire To Fire! Blood Sweat & Tears is catchy if you're in one mood and infuriating in another, Silver is crappy/great ballad, From This Day is Limp Bizkit with another vocalist... it's not Machine Head at their best, that's for sure. Still, if you like I Defy try the rest if you see it cheap, shouldn't be hard to find. I vote miss though.

I voted miss because it is nu-metal through and through in my opinion. I couldn't tolerate it more than one listen but MH only has two good albums in my opinion.

I'd agree with you if The Blackening wasn't so good.

I went with a miss. There is only one Machine Head I can listen to without my blood curdling, and I can't even remember what song it is.

After listning to any form of Machine Head, I put on some Forbidden. Makes me feel much better.

Miss. I like From this day, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Desire to Fire and Message in a bottle but overall it's their worst album. But like I said there are some good songs on it, much like Supercharger.

Machine Head in general has always been a huge miss for me. I never understood what their draw was. I found their music to be boring and I honestly cannot stand the singer whatsoever.

That's just me, though.

I don't even know the Burning Red. :P I only know "The Blackening" and even though I'm not a Nu/Groove Metal Fan, I think it [the blackening] is very good [mainly because it has much thrash inside].

I'd support you on that.

As for the hit, Kath seemed more favorable than most towards the album.

Well, I think the results of this poll more or less solidify my decision of whether to buy this album or not...

I said hit, but only just.

Their last pretty good album IMO....Supercharger was not good, although Bulldozer fucking kicks ass. Cos i'm not really into them much anymore, I haven't really given their latest album much of a listen.
