Maybe you don't have to ask "why?" anymore.
And we may find some post that is not about bashing the uniform and faceless Nu-"Metal" scene.

Some 'alternative metal' that I personally enjoy:

System of a Down
Rage Against the Machine
Helmet

I think these guys rank as the finest in their respective genres (whatever that may be) and to be honest there is not a single music genre I can name that I cannot enjoy the finest examples of.

I used to like Helmet a lot. They had a couple of good songs, definitely one of the best in their field.

System of a Down's first two albums were surprisingly good. The music is simplistic but the concepts are excellent as well as the middle-eastern influence in some of their riffs.

Bands like System OF A Down or Rage Against The Machine have too much politics and rap for me. In this style of music, I prefer things like Slipknot, Chimaira or American Head Charge.

Anyway I don't think that this is a good forum to talk about these bands, seeing that must of the members of the forum are pure metal elitists, that don't care much about the "alternative metal" scene, but I respect every opinion you may have on this issue.

Peace.

Back in the day, before I got into metal, I was obsessed with Blindside... I haven't even listened to them in like 2 years, I don't even remember what some of it sounded like. You would call them Alt Metal, right?

Never really liked System of a Down, mostly because of the dude's voice. But then I listened to Disillusion, and that guy has some SoaD moments, so maybe not that I've grown accustomed to that I should try System again.

The only Helmet I know is an opera singer, heh.

*Is wearing a Blindside shirt that he bought from a Blindside concert a week ago. The second Blindside concert he has been to.

Eh.. they come to Vancouver a lot. The crowd is full of emos, scenesters, and hardcore kids, but I enjoy Blindside.

Not amazing, but good. Original sound, great vocalist, tight live performance... and they're Swedish! Sweden has the best music scene in the world. :)

And I agree with what Jay said about System of a Down. It's too bad that their live performance sounds like a train running over a heard of cats.

I don't know. I haven't seen them recently but I won tickets to a fan-only concert of theirs a few days after Toxicity was released. You had to find this radio station's van somewhere in the city and then answer trivia questions to get the tickets. We miraculously found the van, ran our asses off to beat everyone else there and I got two tickets to the show. It was free and fan-only. The floor at the venue was moving up and down beneath my feet and the violence of the pit was extreme. They also brought the Armenian guy who did the additional vocals on Toxicity out to sing with them. It was a really great show.,

All I ever heard from SoaD is the Link theme song, and it cracks me up every damn time. Nothing else to say.

Kind of ironic you should say that... It's not actually by System of a Down, it's by a band called Rabbit Joint. And I actually heard it last night at Six Flags, heh.
