I want to know what the OP was smoking when he included Nightwish instead of KAMELOT

Fifth Angel. :dio:
Only two albums (1986 & 1988), both awesome! Nothing can beat this! :dio:

Your list is too fruity to call itself POWER METAL...

uhhh... power metal is fruity. Anything else is heavy/power metal. Don't be gay.

Also, I don't remember who I picked for this... and no I'm not going back to look.

It's a toss-up between Helloween and Blind Guardian. But I have to go with Helloween overall.

Yeah that list is kind of fruity, but there is no distinction being made between modern power metal, and older power metal, which is inherently heavier, with better song writing. I havent heard Fifth Angel, but judging from the years of the albums, I should listen.

My favorite power metal band is Nocturnal Rites, but this only takes into account their first 2 1/2 albums. Tales of Mystery and Imagination being the best.

My vote goes to Blind Guardian, but early Helloween (Walls & keeper I&II) almost make me change my vote.

My top 10 list would be like this (today)

1. Rage
2. Iced Earth
3. Nevermore (!)
4. Mystic Prophecy
5. Dragonforce
6. Hammerfall
7. Brainstorm
8. Symphorce
9. Blind Guardian
10. Avantasia/Edguy

But it changes every week or so.

None of the listed. And I'm really not a big PM fan, but here goes the bands I tend to listen to once in a while.

1. Rage
2. Brainstorm
3. DGM
4. Winterborn
5. Sinergy

Isn't Rage considered to be more heavy metal? I don't have anything by them, but that's what I've always heard.

I should check them out.

I don't know. I would agree with that. But they were mentioned here so I put them up. Would say the same about Primal Fear.

Rage is awesome.

You should. But it's not the usual teutonic Power Metal ala Helloween or Blind Guardian.

And if you're not sure, if a band is PM or not... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_power_metal_bands

But I don't know why Nevermore is not listed, because for me, they - though they say that they are not - have all elements what US Power Metal should have. They are so melodic and epic, that I can't put them in the thrash drawer. I mean is this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSA-0lBv3zM so much different from this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOEBWjM837k ?

I generally wouldn't trust those lists. That one includes Lordi and Pretty Maids, neither of which I would consider power metal.

My vote goes for Blind Guardian, although Helloween comes pretty close. :dio:
