These bands have been mentioned, but yeah, outside of metal it's ALL about prog rock.

Pink Floyd
Yes
Mars Volta
King Crimson
Pre-"In Rock" Deep Purple (only because I consider most of the post-"In Rock" output to be metal or proto-metal)

Actually, some stuff that hasn't been mentioned:

The first two albums by VAST are totally amazing,

I've been a really big Cake fan since I was a kid, I think fashion nugget is one of the most consistent albums of all time,

Cat Stevens helps put me at ease after being up all night partying too hard,

Lynyrd Skynyrd, I mean, how can you dislike the first two albums? Just classic stuff.

The motherfuckin' STOOGES. Iggy and crew rock my shit.

Thin Lizzy, lovin' the guitar harmonies.

Yeah, i'd consider all of those to be amongst my favourites.
